What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ocean Rescue Lifeguard/EMT #2024-060 position at City of Pompano Beach?
Technical and responsible work patrolling the City beach to provide the safest possible conditions for beach patrons. Includes rescuing swimmers in distress, administering first aid and basic life support, providing on-scene emergency care and transport of patients, informing the public of City Ordinances, and general maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned.
· High school diploma or equivalent,
· Valid Driver’s License,
· Nationally recognized lifeguard certification (American Red Cross, YMCA, United States Lifesaving Association),
o Significant verifiable ocean lifeguard experience or US Military Rescue Swimmer (e.g. USCG Rescue Swimmer) may be substituted for the lifeguard certificate.
· American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, American Heart Association Basic Life Support, or equivalent,
· Florida State certified EMT
o If candidate is certified by the National Registry of EMT’s, they must obtain the Florida State EMT certification within six months of hire
· Previous Ocean Lifeguard experience preferred.
· Must pass required United States Lifesaving Association swim & rescue skills test, physical, and drug screening.
o Swim test and interviews will be held by invitation only.
o Qualified applicants will be invited to test
· Knowledge of water safety rules and regulations.
· Ability to establish rapport with the general public, fellow workers, and supervisors.
· Sedentary work to extreme labor-intensive work based on rescue situations. Physical abilities include swimming, running, walking, standing, sitting, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, pulling, pushing, climbing, lifting, hearing, talking, and seeing.
· Outside work under all weather conditions.
· Occupational hazards include possible exposure to communicable diseases, bites/stings from marine life.
7% for FL EMT certification
Work Days/Hours : 40 hours per week, five days/week; Monday – Sunday including holidays between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (EST).
