Performs routine manual labor duties of an unskilled nature in the collection of trash and recyclable materials. Responsibilities include liter removal and emptying garbage cans in public areas. On a limited basis, assists canal cleaning operation. Loads and unloads heavy materials from trucks and vans. May drive a City vehicle to carry out duties. May use a radio to communicate with the Central Dispatch Center. Reports damage or suspicious activity. May work outside in all weather conditions. Visually inspects locations to ensure cleanliness and identify maintenance issues. Interacts with staff and public to investigate and resolve complaints. Performs related duties as required.
Experience in manual labor maintenance desired. Previous experience in sanitation activities preferred. Labor intensive position with the ability to move up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis and occasionally up to 100 lbs. Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license. Ability to work without close supervision. Ability to utilize good public relation skills. Ability to communicate effectively with the public, coworkers, and other agencies. Ability to keep simple records, read warning labels on products and understand MSDS documents. Ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Abilities include walking, standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, pushing and pulling. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties, the employee is occasionally exposed to: moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside exposure to all weather conditions, including the ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
Work Days/Hours : 4 days a week, 10 hours per day / 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
