JOB SUMMARY
The Groundskeeper position is responsible for the maintenance of park grounds landscaping and athletic fields for the City of Pooler.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Mows grass and removes weeds in parks and athletic fields.
- Maintains grounds maintenance equipment.
- Trims trees and hedges.
- Installs and maintains flower beds and other landscaping features.
- Operates a leaf blower.
- Collects trash from parking lots sidewalks and other areas.
- Empties trash cans.
- Assists in the installation and repair of irrigation systems.
- Prepares sports fields for practice and play.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of grounds maintenance principles.
- Knowledge of athletic field maintenance principles.
- Knowledge of equipment operation repair and maintenance principles.
- Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
- Skill in the operation of job-related tools and equipment.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of related grounds maintenance duties. Inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to assist in the maintenance of parks and athletic fields. Success in this position contributes to safe and well-maintained recreation facilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting standing stooping walking bending crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects climbs ladders and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. The work is typically performed outdoors occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise dust dirt grease machinery with moving parts and irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks goggles gloves etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to read write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
