JOB SUMMARY
This position provides customer service and clerical assistance for the city™s utility and treasury functions.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Receives and processes utility payments from customers.
- Prepares drop box and mail payments for electronic deposit process.
- Establishes new commercial and residential utility accounts.
- Prepares final notices for non-payment of accounts.
- Prepares connect disconnect and check for leak service orders.
- Assists with the filing of utility department data.
- Assists with functions related to occupational tax certificates and alcoholic beverage licensing.
- Sorts and distributes citywide mail.
- Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance.
- Provides general administrative support to the Finance Department. Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
- Knowledge of departmental policies procedures and functions including general knowledge of State of Georgia revenue sources.
- Skill in the provision of customer services. Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Utility Services & Treasury Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions. Completed work is spot-checked for compliance with procedures accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of related customer service and clerical duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the work. The purpose of this position is to assist with the city™s utility billing and treasury functions. Successful performance contributes to the effectiveness of those functions.
CONTACTS
Contacts are typically with co-workers contractors plumbers developers property owners customers and the general public. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information resolve problems and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting standing or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects. The work is typically performed in an office.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to read write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
