What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor (Seasonal) position at CITY OF PORT ORANGE?
The Port Orange Summer Adventures is a day camp for children ages 5-11, held at the REC (4655 City Center Circle). Camp will start on June 9th and conclude on August 1st.
The hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 7:30am-5:30pm.
This is a seasonal, 40-hour per week position, for the duration of camp. Additional training dates will be required prior to the camp start date.
POSITION OBJECTIVES
Oversees summer camp operation and ensures the safety of all participants.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

·Responsible for the overall of the children.
·May discipline children with minor behavioral issues. Anything deemed a serious behavior issue will be sent to either Site Supervisor or Assistant Site Supervisor.
·Interact with the children, plan daily activities, supervise, and participate always.
·Responsible for daily safety maintenance checklist.
·Assist in planning and running special events and activities.
·Ensures all rules and regulations are being carried out by all participants throughout the program.
·Responsible for inventory control.
·Attend work promptly and regularly.
·Performs related work as required. These additional duties may be representative of tasks typically performed by those in a lesser or more advanced job grade.
This position is part of the City’s Emergency Management Team and, as such, shall be expected to perform all duties that are assigned during an emergency management operation. Any additional compensation, above the normal weekly salary shall be outlined by the City Manager in the City’s Emergency Management Activation and Emergency Declaration.

Education and Experience
·High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
·Three to six months related experience coordinating various recreational programs.

·Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety and playing rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
·Ability to identify potential risk management issues.
·Ability to speak effectively before groups of citizens or clients.
·Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
·Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
