Responsible technical work in engineering, drafting, and/or civil engineering drafting of plans for utility construction and maintenance projects of the Utility Systems Department. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City and it’s Utility.
The following duties are illustrative for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned. - Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie and Utility Systems Department at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
- Works under the direction of Mapping Supervisor to input existing record drawing information into the Utility’s service area digital map.
- Performs intermediate to advanced tasks to continue required skill with CADD, FME (Feature Manipulation Engine), and MicroSurvey software applications.
- Interprets residential, commercial, and capital improvement digital as-builts.
- Interprets subcontracted new construction paper based as-builts.
- Interprets residential site plan information for inclusion into the Utility’s service area digital map
- Regular and punctual attendance.
- Makes field inspections to verify or gather field data, as necessary, using land surveying methods and instrumentation.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES SHIFT WORK, SCHEDULED/UNSCHEDULED OVERTIME, INCLUDING EVENINGS, WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS AND/OR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO EMERGENCY CONDITIONS.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. One (1) year of college-level course work in drafting, one (1) year of experience in civil engineering drafting, and a minimum of one (1) year of AutoDesk Map CADD/computer experience in a Utility Systems environment required. Possession of valid Florida Driver’s License and maintenance of clean driving record required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Advanced skills with CADD software and related equipment and procedures.
- Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of land surveying and engineering drafting.
- Basic knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques of utility systems construction.
- Ability to read and interpret moderately complex survey plats, engineering plans, and profiles.
- Ability to operate basic surveying instruments and perform calculations relative to land surveying.
- Ability to work with computers and a basic understanding of digital file management.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
- Ability to focus on the positive in every situation.
- Ability to stay centered when challenged.
