This position is an Essential classification and is required you to report to duty before, during and after a civil emergency. This position requires a DOT physical.
Field Technician Trainee- Manual and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, construction and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection utility mains and systems. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City’s Utility.
Field Technician I- Advanced manual and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, construction and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection utility mains and systems. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City’s Utility.
Field Technician II- Technical and manual labor position operating, inspecting, maintaining and repairing all types of utility equipment and appurtenances pertaining to water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City’s Utility.

Field Technician Trainee:
Field Technician Trainee
High school graduation, possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License and maintenance of a clean driving history. Must obtain a Florida CDL-A Driver’s License Permit within six (6) months of employment and obtain a Florida CDL-A Driver’s License w/Tanker Endorsement within eighteen (18) months of employment.
Field Technician I
High school graduation, possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. One (1) year experience with water distribution and/or wastewater collection systems. Knowledge of safe work techniques and practices used in minor line construction. Must possess a valid Florida CDL “A” Driver’s License w/ Tanker Endorsement. Maintenance of a clean driving record.
Field Technician II
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma supplemented by specialized mechanical training. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with water distribution and/or wastewater collection systems. Possession of a valid Florida CDL “A” Driver’s License with Tanker endorsement at the time of employment. (Requires maintenance of DOT physical requirements.)

- Answers customer services calls promptly and efficiently.
- Assist in the performance of varied maintenance and construction activities to the City water and wastewater treatment and water distribution and collection systems.
- Assist in locating, installation, repair and maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection lines and mains.
- Install and set water meters.
- Tap water main and wastewater mains to be used for service lines.
- Assist in the installation, repair, maintenance/exercising and testing of fire hydrants, valves, backflow preventers and other devices.
- Regular and punctual attendance.
- Perform duties as assigned through work orders.
- Operate necessary equipment needed to accomplish daily job duties associated with the water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
- Work on high and low voltage equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance of City-owned property (mowing, trimming, debris clearance, weed control, etc.)
- Keep basic records; perform computer data entry.
- May be required to go on twenty-four (24) hour rotating on-call schedule within twelve (12) months of hire.

- Regular and punctual attendance.
- Coordinate the maintenance and repair of low pressure STEP, lift stations, residential and commercial grinders, gravity sewer systems, manholes, and valves.
- Check new tanks for leaks or other defects and assure correct installation of same. Check out pumps and alarm systems.
- Inspect, maintain and repair low-pressure mains, force mains, gravity sewer laterals, clean outs, and service lines. TV service line laterals and report any potential problems.
- Inspect connection (circuit breaker) for Building Department Certificate of Occupancy.
- Work on high and low voltage equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance on City-owned property (mowing, trimming, debris clearance, weed control, etc.)
- Perform duties as assigned through work orders. Answer customer service calls promptly and efficiently.
- Train and instruct new staff members in established procedures and methods.
- Required to go on twenty-four (24) hour rotation. May require announced or unannounced overtime or call-out to respond to emergency situations.
- Maintain accurate records, perform computer data entry.
