This position is Essential and is required to report to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency.
Technical work in carrying out planning research related to background data and public notification for various studies and reports. Assist public with basic property information. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

- Assists public in locating properties and associated zoning on maps.
- Reviews and approves sign permits.
- Performs business tax zoning review.
- Prepares zoning verification letters.
- Performs Planner of the Day duties.
- Assists Planners with research of planning issues.
- Performs minor map or graphic related work.
- Types using PC based word processing software and processes letters, forms, reports, orders and/or related paperwork.
- Prepare maps and updates web-based map program.
- Assists with updating Planning and Zoning Web page.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree required. Minimum of one (1) year experience in the field of planning, permit review, plans review and/or zoning administration required. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred in Urban Planning, Architecture, or related field and can be substituted for experience. Possession of valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of clean driving record required.
A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Knowledge, Skill and/or Ability Required:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, internal and external customers, and the general public.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Knowledge and skill in the use of Microsoft Office software.
- Knowledge of basic land use and property records.
- Knowledge of the department and City's policies, procedures and practices.
- Skill in the operation of a computer and department related programs.
- Ability to present information in a logical and understandable format.
- Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with employees, City officials, and the public.
- Ability to focus on the positive in every situation.
