Responsible for overseeing and directly participating in parks maintenance activities related to repair and improvement of parks facilities and equipment. Provides leadership to subordinate employees under the general direction of the Parks Operations Manager. Performs skilled and manual work in sports turf, grounds, and irrigation maintenance consistent with park, open space and sports field operations. Coordinates work assignments with Parks Operations Managers. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

- Supervises and provides instruction to full and part-time employees and participates in the daily maintenance functions of a City park, open space or recreation facility, grounds and landscape maintenance and repair.
- Relays direction and communication to subordinate staff as directed by the Operations Manager, Assistant Director or Director of Parks & Recreation.
- Interprets direction and communicates to subordinates as directed by Managers and Assistant Director.
- Assists with analyzing and resolving duty assignments and conflicts within his/her assigned park work unit.
- Interprets, analyzes, prioritizes, and communicates daily job assignments and directions to subordinate employees.
- Works independently without direct supervision.
- Makes worksite inspections and maintains various tools, equipment, machines and vehicles including the minor repair of same.
- Supervises and participates in the maintenance of various grounds, fields, buildings and parks.
- Participates in staff performance evaluation process, in conjunction with Parks Operations Manager and/or Parks Operations Supervisor, for subordinate staff, subject to personnel policies of the department and with the approval of the Operations Manager, Assistant Director, or Director of Parks & Recreation
- Assembles and maintains pertinent records and other information.
- Prepares fields for athletic activities by lining, raking, etc.
- Working under the supervision of Parks Operations Manager, handles personnel-related items, disciplinary investigations, and provides orientation for new hires.
- Prepares and documents investigations of public complaints and requests for services. Provides appropriate and timely feedback to management and customers with the resolution of complaints.
- Helps maintain equipment and facilities by performing manual labor and semi-skilled work.
- Sprays grounds with herbicides.
- Installs turf and seeds on fields, parks and other grounds.
- Performs litter control functions; cleans restrooms; sets up picnic and other areas.
- Operates vehicles. Performs preventative maintenance functions on vehicles.
- Informs and directs the public in the use of facilities.
- Make daily written and oral reports.
- Inspects and repairs irrigation system.
- Inspects and documents facilities for safety, maintenance, and repairs.
- Coordinates scheduling and programs.
- Provides training and direction to assigned staff.
- Participates on a panel of Park staff responsible for interviewing and making recommendations for the hiring of candidates to fill vacant positions within own work unit.
- Assists with inventory and budget needs.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May oversee the work of non-supervisory employees. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the City’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. Three (3) years of ground maintenance experience required. A minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience is preferred. Possession of valid Florida driver’s license and maintenance of clean driving record required.
A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of landscape maintenance, turf installation, and irrigation systems.
- Knowledge of tools and equipment required to perform duties.
- Knowledge of groundskeeping practices and principles.
- Ability to apply herbicides, insecticides, and fertilizers in accordance with applicable law.
