This position is an Essential classification and will be required to report to duty before, during and immediately after a civil emergency.
The starting salary range for this position is $17.99 - $20.69 depending on qualifications
Technical work in the manufacturing and installation of street signs, stop signs, and other traffic control signs and markings. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

- Manufactures, installs, and maintains traffic control and other roadway signs.
- Installs thermoplastic material on roadway surface.
- Accesses, inputs, and retrieves information from a computer.
- Removes graffiti and other vandalism or debris from roadway and Traffic Control Devices.
- Assist with installation of Temporary Traffic Control and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) as assigned.
- Installs delineators and object markers in accordance with the latest version of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
- May perform street maintenance tasks such as pothole repair and other maintenance functions.
- Assist with installation of traffic monitoring equipment.
- Assist with sign inventory and retro-reflectivity data collection.
- Regular and punctual attendance.
- May be required to work hours other than standard day shift.
- Works during emergency situations as required.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Minimum of one (1) year of experience with sign and pavement marking preferred. Possession of valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of clean driving record required. A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) – Work Zone Safety Certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months from date of hire.
- IMSA – Signs and Markings Level I certification or the ability to obtain within one (1) year from date of hire.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards as well as safety precautions of the workplace.
- Knowledge of Federal Highway Administration’s MUTCD.
- Knowledge of the procedures and practice of installing and maintaining traffic control devices.
- Knowledge of computers, spread sheets, data processing and sign production.
- Skill in the use of computer-generated sign machine.
- Skill in the use of common hand tools.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to do mathematical computations.
- Ability to operate thermoplastic and paint with road marking equipment.
- Ability to identify safety and deficiencies.
- Ability to complete work orders, time and equipment logs.
- Ability to generate and assemble traffic signs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, consultants and City officials, employees, and the public.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, walk and stand; work in close confined spaces; use hands with dexterity to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include acceptable eyesight and hearing.
