Public Works Department - Up to a $2,000 Sign On Bonus available to an external candidate
The Department of Public Works is seeking a talented team member to perform skilled and advanced technical work to support the Occupancy Permitting Program, construction activities and other public infrastructure management duties. The successful candidate’s fundamental responsibility is to ensure the City Code of Ordinances, technical design manual and MUTCD, and ADA compliance work zones are established and maintained. The position requires monitoring construction of projects within the public right-of-way, collect and analyze data and prepare technical documentation. Additional duties will include issuing violations, handling citizen complaints, providing technical assistance at neighborhood meetings, preparing and carrying out constructive plans, participating in department's winter operation program, and organizing and maintaining construction, property, and other vital records. Assignments may include working beyond the normal weekday shift. Willingness to accept overtime assignments is a plus. To learn more about our Public Works Department, click here.
Requirements:
- Graduation from high school and/or vocational technical school with extensive related experience; or any equivalent combination of certification, experience, education and training which provides considerable knowledge of municipal, civil, traffic, sewer and stormwater engineering practices for design and construction.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and enforce City Ordinances, construction plans and specifications.
- Ability to withstand exposure to varied climatic conditions and maneuver over uneven terrain.
Training and Experience Desired:
- Knowledge or ability to learn software tools including: Google Suite products, CityWorks, Street Openings Program custom software including Tyler Energov.
- Work Zone certification; Dig Safe certification.
- MDOT Traffic Control Planning.
- Excavation Safety.
- Maine Local Roads Center Pavement Preservation; Soil and Erosion Control Practices.
- Must possess valid Maine Class C driver’s license (must provide license number).
- Must have and maintain a good driving record.

Salary & Benefits:
This is a union position, CEBA (Grade 17) - Starting salary range: $27.09/hr. to $28.33/hr.
