Summary: Portland Parks and Recreation's Inclusive Recreation program focuses on providing access to recreational, educational, and wellness activities for individuals with disabilities.
Inclusion services serve folks living with a disability that may need a little extra help to participate in activities across Portland Parks locations. These activities may include day camps, SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) schools, environmental ed and classes offered throughout parks.
This recruitment is intended for summer employment only.
Note: This job is open for a limited time. Applicants will be contacted when positions become available. Early applications are encouraged. Job Type: Casual, Part-time. This job posting is for several positions, which are classified by the City of Portland as Parks Activities Specialist.
Schedule: This job has flexible hours and might include working during the day, evenings, weekends, or holidays. The number of hours you work each week can change based on program needs, and there is no guarantee of work hours each week.
Location: These jobs are at multiple locations around Portland. When you apply you can only choose multiple locations that you want to work at.

To Qualify
Qualifications Needed:
- Have a positive and supportive attitude toward individuals with disabilities.
- Be able to talk and listen well with different kinds of people.
- Be able to spot and handle safety and emergency situations.
- Work well in a team and build positive relationships with staff, volunteers, and customers.
- Have knowledge of behavior modification techniques and use positive reinforcement.
These qualifications aren’t required to get the job, but it’s great if you have them. Please mention them in your work history if you do:
- Experience working with children, teens, or adults with disabilities.
- Knowledge about the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and how to make changes to help people with disabilities.

Inclusion Assistant: Inclusion Services
As part of Inclusion Services, the Inclusion Assistant will be working 1:1 or 1:2 or within a group to provide assistance to participants of all ages with physical, developmental and/or emotional disabilities in general recreation programs. Duties include adapting activities, following inclusion success action plans, maintaining a safe environment, and promoting a participant’s success in programs. Have clear communication with Community center staff, Inclusion services coordinator, families and caregivers.
Locations: Charles Jordan, East Portland, Matt Dishman, Montavilla, Mt. Scott, Peninsula Park, St. Johns, and Southwest Community Centers, Alice Ott, Arleta, Beaumont, Centennial, Faubion, Grout, Lane, Mt. Tabor, Parkrose, Roseway Heights, and Sitton SUN Community Schools, Environmental Education programs and at Parks and pools throughout the system, and on trips/excursions.
Shift Range: Weekdays and weekend mornings, afternoons, and evenings.
