PSO Deputy Sheriffs fulfill 12-hour shifts (rotating) with every other weekend off, working only 14 days a month
Day Shift 8am-8pm
Night Shift 8pm- 8am
Job Responsibilities
- Perform vital jailor duties with precision and professionalism.
- Conduct meticulous inspections of incarcerated individuals housing areas, ensuring utmost security and order.
- Supervise and oversee all aspects of incarcerated individuals' daily routines, including meals, exercise, recreation, hygiene, safety and compliance.
- Utilize your special skills and training to effectively manage and handle incarcerated individuals' behavior.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of all pertinent information related to incarcerated individuals.
Eligible for transfer after three years of service:
Court Security Unit, Civil Process Unit, Criminal Apprehension Unit, Training Unit, D.A.R.E. Unit, K-9 Unit, Traffic Unit, S.A.V.E. Unit, Drone Unit, Community Affairs Unit

Minimum Qualifications for Deputy Sheriff:
- Education: High school graduate or GED equivalent
- Similar work background is preferred but not required
- US Citizenship
- At least 18 years of age at the time of sworn duty
- Physical condition: must be declared "fit for duty" by Occupational Health Office
- Valid driver’s license - must have a positive point driving record.
- Training: successfully complete Academy within the first 12 months of employment — successful completion includes passing all phases of academic, physical, driver, and firearms activity. In addition, in-service maintenance training and semi-annual firearms qualifications are ongoing.
- Special requirements: position requires being available for emergency calls, standby duty, 12-hour shifts, and details outside the facility. Also includes work on days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.
- Former military must have a copy of DD-214.
