The City of Post Falls is seeking an experienced Planner to join our Community Development Planning Team. Examples of Work Duties
Planner I:
Hiring Range: $26.25 - $27.56
- Posts notices for public hearings and code enforcement action;
- Provides professional and technical expertise in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Post Falls GIS.
- Assists in the preparation of exhibits and reports for planning applications and activities;
- Answers inquiries from and provides assistance to the public, by telephone and in person, regarding development and zoning projects and current City codes;
- Performs technical GIS and planning functions including research, review, analysis, presentation, and coordination of zoning map amendments, annexation, zone changes, development applications, special use permits, variance, and related applications;
- Processes planning and zoning permit applications, including reviewing application documents, site visits, and preparing material for senior planners;
- Coordinates application review process with affected parties, including applicant, property owner, planning staff, architects and engineers, City regulatory and review bodies, and the public;
- Provides technical staff support and assistance to the Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council, including review and recommendations on proposals;
- Assists in the overall implementation of the City Comprehensive Plan, including general planning and development philosophy, goals, and policies;
- Assists in maintenance of current land use application case files as assigned;
- Assists in maintaining current city maps, zoning maps, planning documents, planning and development codes and related regulations, geographic and demographic information and databases, and related studies and statistics, for research, documentation, and public access;
- Review development applications and building permits to ensure code compliance.
Associate Planner
Hiring Range: $28.61 - $30.04
- In addition to all Planner I requirements:
- Provides information and assistance to the public, answers inquiries, directs customers to the appropriate source for information;
- Processes planning and zoning permit applications for the Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council under supervision of the Planning Manager;
- Performs research and gathers information, reviews applications, and prepares recommendations for studies and reports;
- Processes site plan applications; reviewing application documents, site visits, and inspections in coordination with other city departments;
- Performs research for general plan amendments and ordinance revisions;
- Prepares recommended changes to zoning ordinances;
- Performs special projects, studies, and research as directed;
- Reviews annexation, subdivision, and land use applications for compliance with the Area of City Impact (ACI) agreements (if applicable), comprehensive plan, master plans, development agreements, and City codes;
- Prepares and presents written and oral reports to regulatory and hearing bodies, including planning staff findings and recommendations with oversight by the Planning Manager;
- Assists in code enforcement efforts in coordination with the Police Department;
- GIS mapping, as needed;
- Maintains zoning maps, planning documents, planning and development codes and related regulations, geographic and demographic information and databases, and related studies and statistics, for research, documentation, and public access;
- Provides assistance to the public, by telephone and in person, regarding development and zoning projects and current City codes;
- Provides information and recommendations for amendments on short-term and long-range planning issues and proposed revisions to City master plans and development codes;
- Performs field inspections to gather data relevant to the development review process and/or to verify that development projects comply with approved plans;
- Assist with grant development activities and coordination with other departments;
- Assist the Planning Manager with economic development activities.

Acceptable Experience and Training
Planner I:
- Bachelor’s degree in planning, landscape architecture, geography, public administration, or a related field; and
- Familiar with ESRI for GIS mapping
- One (1) year experience in planning or a related field
Associate Planner:
- Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, geography, design or public administration, or other related fields; and
- Two (2) years experience in planning or a closely related field; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work;
- AICP certification is preferred, but not required.
