General PurposeResponsible for the operation and supervision of a municipal pool, where professionalism and public safety are of utmost importance. Directly supervises the lifeguard, lead guards, cashiers and swim instructor staff, performs responsible lifeguard assignments, performs administrative duties, enforces rules and policies, and communicates effectively with the public. Performs responsible work enforcing water safety rules and regulations, rescuing distressed or drowning swimmers, taking appropriate first aid action and maintaining equipment Employees in this class may work a variety of hours, be flexible, and have nontraditional work weeks and hours.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPrevents accidents through the enforcement of organizational policies, rules and regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of persons using swimming pools. Adheres to Prosser Parks and Recreation Department policies and procedures. Supervises aquatic staff including lifeguards, lead guards, instructors and cashiers. Assesses and responds to emergency situations in accordance within the aquatic facility in accordance with City policies and procedures. Demonstrates good public relations when dealing with patrons, the general public and other city employees. Performs specialized work as it pertains to pool operations and maintenance. Monitors, performs and documents pool maintenance, water chemistry, and supply inventory. Enforces rules and regulations, intervening when necessary. Monitors & maintains bathhouse, pool and surrounding ground areas for cleanliness and safety, noting potential hazards or unsafe conditions. Completes the scheduling of aquatics staff with the assistance of the Recreation Manager. Monitors aquatics staff time log and submits to the Recreation Manager. Coordinates, develops and implements in-service training for all aquatics staff. Communicates concerns, needs, accidents, vandalism, operating situations and/or general information to the Recreation Manager on a daily basis. Insures all pool safety equipment is in proper working order. Be innovative towards maintaining guard alertness and readiness towards safety for the public. Coordinates special events with Recreation Manger.Performs related duties as assigned including, but not limited to: Effectively rescuing victims in need of assistance Administering First Aid and/or CPR as needed Activating and administering the emergency action response plan Performs duties of a lifeguard and swim instructor as needed and requested. Coordinates and communicates with other assistant managers, Recreation Manager, and other staff to provide for a safe and family friendly environment. Assists the Recreation Manager in conducting staff meetings and staff training. Conducts daily walk-through of aquatic areas to ensure appropriate appearance while documenting needed maintenance and repairs. Conducts daily checks of maintenance schedule and backwash logs, etc. Performs routine maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on standard swimming pool equipment. Maintains files, records, and reports necessary for pool operations. Performs other duties as assigned such as answering phone, running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities, conducting classes, helping set up for classes, events, etc. Maintains discipline in and around the pool area. Calls supervisor if assistance is needed. Plans, coordinates, and delivers regular in-service trainings, at a minimum of four hours per month, focused on staff proficiency of water safety, first aid, CPR, and other operational subjects. Provides input, feedback and ideas to management regarding potential program improvements or efficiencies. Contributes to effective City operations by performing other duties as assigned. Works with other departments, citizen groups, and others.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Preferred SkillsWorking knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive aquatics program; Supervisory experience preferred.Prior lifeguard experience preferred. Aquatic Facility Operator Certification preferred. Ability to effectively enforce safety and health regulations relating to an aquatics program. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors participants, and instructors. Ability to work with the public and possess excellent public relations skills. Ability to communicate effectively.
