JOB
This is unskilled or semi-skilled manual labor in the construction and maintenance of various City facilities, including parks, buildings, streets rights of way, trails and public spaces, water, irrigation, and solid waste. Work in this class will be varied but of routine nature effecting repair and maintenance. Employees in this class may work a variety of hours, be flexible, and have nontraditional work weeks and hours.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Parks FocusPerforms routine duties of maintenance or repairs on City-owned buildings and infrastructure related to the parks and park facilities.Responds to request for service or emergency help. Reports situation to supervisor and assists in resolution. Maintain underground sprinkler systems, playground equipment, buildings, and assist in repair of the same.Writes job status reports. Maintains written logs for critical park systems and operations.Performs park and facility maintenance (including PAC) and repairs as assigned. Performs routine manual work such as weeding, hauling trash and cutting brush in park areas. Mows, rakes and edges lawns, cuts tree limbs and trims shrubs. Operates tractor and tractor mounted implements, fork lift, cement mixer, push mower, single-deck riding mower, pick-up truck, small single-axle trailers, 14" chain saw for limbing only, small compressors, small generators, weedeaters, blowers, edgers, and hedge trimmers. Performs custodial work that includes picking up litter and garbage, and cleaning and restocking restrooms and picnic and playground areas in all parks. Performs heavy manual tasks such as digging ditches and carrying supplies.Streets FocusPerforms routine duties of maintenance or repairs on City-owned buildings and infrastructure related to the street departments. Responds to request for service or emergency help. Reports situation to supervisor and assists in resolution. Maintain underground sprinkler systems, right of way, sidewalks, traffic controls and assist in repair of the same.Writes job status reports. Maintains written logs for critical traffic systems and operations. Performs right of way maintenance and repairs as assigned. Directs traffic around hazards or crews on road projects or in roadway. Performs general manual labor digging ditches, cleaning and installing culverts or drain tiles, cutting or burning brush, removing obstacles from roadway and adjacent areas. Performs simple manual work connected with patching and repairing of roadways, bridge construction, road construction, transfer site and landfill construction and maintenance. Operates light equipment such as lawnmowers, pickup trucks, and other powered tools. Operates small power equipment and tools such as power saws, chippers, gas-powered mud and water pumps and generators.Prepares asphalt on paving or patching projects by raking to proper depth prior to rolling.Assists in preparing holes on projects requiring explosives.Performs custodial work in shops, offices and grounds. Assists in the preparation and installation of traffic signs, preparation and application of sign fencing, painting of roadway markings; drives pilot car for paint striper.General ProvisionsResponds to requests for service or emergency help. Reports situation to supervisor and assists in resolution.Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assignedWorks in conjunction with various federal, state and local agencies to ensure the highest level of service possible is provided to the community. Contributes to effective City operations by performing other duties as assigned. Works with other departments, citizen groups, and others.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, supervisors, City administration, and the general public.This list is illustrative only and not intended to specify every duty and job responsibility.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Must possess and be able to obtain a valid Washington State Driver's License, or have the ability to obtain one within 60 days.Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Washington State CDL License, or have the ability to obtain one within 120 days.Must possess and be able to maintain First Aid and CPR certification, or have the ability to obtain one within one year.Motorized vehicles and equipment usual to public works construction, maintenance, and repair including, but not limited to: personal safety equipment, dump trucks, pickup trucks, utility truck, street sweeper/broom, pavement marking equipment, sign installation equipment, weed control spray equipment, jetter/inductor truck, street roller, man-lift, lift truck, tractors, backhoes, rider mowers, push mowers, power trimmers, plate compactors, saws, chainsaws, edgers, pumps, compressors, welders, sanders, generators, shovels, mops, brooms, painting supplies, power tools, ladders, shoring equipment, detection devices, gauges, sampling and lab equipment, chlorination systems, valves, filtration equipment, mobile radio, phone, fax, tele-metering equipment, PC computer, and computerized equipment.
