What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Relations Coordinator position at City of Providence?
The Community Relations Coordinator for the City of Providence works within the Mayor’s Office. The Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Director of the Mayor’s Center for City Services. The Coordinator works in close collaboration with other city departments and agencies, serves as a direct link between the city and the community, interfacing with residents, businesses, and visitors to the City of Providence and promoting quality of life for all of our neighborhoods.
A successful candidate will demonstrate success in creating, coordinating and supporting events and opportunities that generate awareness of and support for community and city priorities. This position will proactively ensure that equitable community feedback is incorporated and shared with all departments through two-way, proactive communication through social media, emails, phone calls, attendance at events and other opportunities.
The Coordinator is responsible for:
- Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with constituents, stakeholders and community organizations
- Providing strong leadership to ensure that the Mayor’s vision of creating strong and resilient neighborhoods for all residents is realized
- Developing and evaluating goals, performance metrics, and operational targets for the Office of Community Relations on an annual basis
- Working closely with the Mayor’s Offices of Communications, Policy Office and City Services to obtain and disseminate information about citywide programs, initiatives, policies, and events to city staff
- Managing a calendar of community events to ensure city representation
- Drafting, translating and managing a bi-weekly newsletter to ensure community organizations and stakeholders have the information they need in a timely and accessible way
- Maintaining in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Administration and Departmental priorities and initiatives
- Supporting the PVD311 call center to establish a knowledge base of concerns reported by residents to maintain an effective city service process
- Overseeing the Mayor’s Office community event management and supporting other departments with event promotion and execution, both virtually and in-person
- Ability to provide translation and interpretation as needed to ensure information is accessible to community members and stakeholders
- Attending staff meetings with the Office of City Services
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Mayor’s Center for City Services
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred and/or ears of experience in community or public relations
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities and proactively follow up to ensure deadlines and desired outcomes are achieved
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to interact professionally with colleagues and external partners
- Acute cross-cultural awareness, with a demonstrated ability to center equity in communications and engagement
- Experience with bilingual community engagement and demonstrated success communicating to a diverse constituency across multiple platforms
- Ability to work and lead others effectively in a fast-paced environment and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to exercise discretion with confidential information
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications specifically, Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Maintain availability to work on a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as needed
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is required
Salary : $65,000 - $75,000
