What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Maintenance Worker/Pools position at City of Pueblo?
This is a non-exempt, seasonal position limited to 1300 hours annually. Under the supervision of the Parks Supervisor, Sr. Parks Mechanic and Pool Maintenance Mechanics, this position assists by performing unskilled to semi-skilled work in a variety of fields in the maintenance and upkeep of the City’s pools, splash parks and related facilities. Duties also include operating vehicles and equipment in either a specific or a variety of maintenance, construction, and/or utility tasks.

- Performs general maintenance in aquatic facilities
- Monitors, handles, and installs chemicals for swimming pools under the direct supervision of the facility CPO
- Performs light repairs to swimming pool structures, fences, and gates
- Operates a variety of hand tools and power equipment
- Cleans, maintains, and services equipment and tools
- Performs semi-skilled painting work
- Assembles furniture and other structures
- Makes minor adjustments and keeps equipment in good operating conditions
- Performs heavy manual labor for extended periods under some unfavorable climatic conditions
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Safely operates a motor vehicle for the purpose of driving to work locations and performing the essential functions of the position
- Operates light duty vehicles, trucks, jack hammers, rakes, shovels, sprayers, blowers, and other hand tools
IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS:
- Assists with the general maintenance of all City parks and facilities
- Performs emergency duty after normal work hours (this position requires working weekends)
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical standards an employee must meet to perform the essential job duties with or without a reasonable accommodation include, but are not limited to:
- Work involves frequent kneeling, bending, and lifting in designated aquatic facilities and related facilities
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 100 pounds
This position requires:
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
- Working knowledge of general maintenance
- Knowledge of and the ability to use common hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, saw, etc.
- Some knowledge and/or the ability to learn about occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, harmonious, cooperative, and productive working relationships with other employees and the public
- Literacy in English with the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and posted schedules
- Knowledge of practices used in the operation of equipment and the ability to carry them out
- Ability to pick up garbage and generally maintain all aquatic and related facilities
- Ability to report for work on time and perform the duties of the job for an entire workday
- Ability to maintain accurate time sheets and submit them to a designated supervisor in a timely manner
- Ability to follow City policies and regulations
In addition to the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, the position requires:
- Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older
- Must have legal authorization to work in the United States of America
- Must submit to and pass a pre-employment background check
- Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug screen
- A valid driver's license at time of application and Colorado driver’s license at the time of hire
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Position may require occasional overtime with some weekend and holiday work required. Work is characterized by the necessity for considerable physical exertion throughout the workday with close daily contact with unpleasant materials and working outdoors under occasionally adverse weather conditions. All City facilities and vehicles are tobacco-free.
Due to Federal and State Criminal Justice System access requirements, classifications that access and maintain criminal justice information may also be required, as a condition of employment, to not have been convicted of and/or have pending charges of a felony or misdemeanor crime that would deny or otherwise restrict access to criminal justice information. This requirement applies to all existing City employees as well as external candidates seeking to fill positions that meet the given criteria.
