General Description
Prefer a minimum of 2 years of experience in the role of Water Safety Instructor (WSI), and/or Basic Safety Instructor (BSI). Demonstrates a clear understanding and ability to teach all swimming skills, and in developing a plan to structure and evaluate the progress of their swimmers. Demonstrates an ability to clearly communicate swimming skills to participants and able to manage the needs of the swim team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- ARC Lifeguard/CPR/First Aid/AED Certification OR ARC CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Certification
- Demonstrate competency in written and oral communication
- 1-2 years’ experience coaching a swim team or teaching swim lessons regularly
- Demonstrate consistency and thoroughness in writing practice/lesson plans
Preferred Qualifications:
- ARC WSI or BSI certification, ARC CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Certification
Previous Experience
Prior experience as a lifeguard and swim instructor desired. Ideal candidate will have prior coaching experience with a team of 10 or more swimmers. The job requires that the employee have a clear understanding of all swimming skills. Employee must demonstrate an ability to clearly communicate swimming skills to participants and be able to manage the needs of a swim team.
Nature of Work
This job requires that the employee is flexible about scheduling to accommodate the success/needs of the swim team. This may include early mornings, evenings and weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative duties
- Have knowledge of Rec1 and administration work related to swim team management.
- Assist in preparing material as required by tri-county league for meets and practices.
- Responsible for the safety of participants and staff in facility.
- Performs paperwork and scheduling required for the attendance to swim meets for Barracuda’s.
- Develop plans for practices and adjusts as needed per swimmer.
- Attends and contributes information to coaches meetings.
- Performs other Tasks as assigned by Team Manager and APC/AAPC.
Swim Team and Instruction
- Teach, educate, and operate the program to meet the needs of the facilities’ swim team needs.
- Performs duties delegated by head coach.
- Assists in securing volunteers for home meets and county meets.
- Complete appropriate paperwork in a timely manner.
- Contribute knowledge, experience, and quality work ethic to all swim team management and instruction.
- Enforce rules of facility as a leader and a follower.
- Lead practices five days a week.
Pay Rate: $18 /hour and Up DOE

Business casual when coaching

Facility Issued t-shirt or tank with navy blue, black, grey or red sport leggings or shorts (shorts must be at or past fingertip length) No part of undergarments showing, tank tops or sport wear underneath tanks are allowed. Sweatshirts are allowed underneath facility Issued t-shirt, preferably no hood, not allowed to wear hoods while on shift.

Hours of Employment:
Must have flexible scheduling. Available for 10-40 hours/week (weeks with 40 hours will include swim meets). Must be available M-F either 8:30 – 11 AM or 5:30 PM to 8 PM. Away meets typically fall between M-Th, with home meets hosted on Friday. Coaching staff are responsible for personal transportation to and from practices, and coaches will travel as a staff to attend competitions. Schedule can be flexible for occasional days needed off if proper time off procedure is followed.
