General Description
Assumes responsibilities for safety of patrons in City of Pullman aquatic facilities. Serves as swim instructor during operational hours.
Hiring Criteria
- Current ARC CPR:PR Certification (or equivalent) (or willingness to obtain upon hiring)
Preferred Qualifications
- Current ARC Water Safety Instructor Certification (would be under hiring criteria for WSI Swim Instructor) or ARC Basic Swim Instructor Certification (or equivalent) (or willingness to obtain within 1 year of hiring)
Nature of Work
The job requires that the employee work a predetermined scheduled shift. Scheduling is flexible however it may include mornings, evenings and possibly weekends. Instructors are scheduled for a session of swim lessons, length varies from 4 to 8 weeks. Instructors are expected to attend all scheduled classes with a minimum of substitutes needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Uphold a high standard of professionalism for position.
- Positively represent PAFC as swim instructor.
- Teach swimming skills in accordance with American Red Cross Curriculum In a fun, positive manner.
- Structure Class time appropriately to incorporate repetition, reinforcement and introduction of required skills
- Maintain all necessary certifications for position.
- Provide copies of certification.
- Promote all facility programs.
- Has knowledge of safety rules and regulations and possesses willingness to enforce them.
- Able to exercise good judgment, both with public relations and emergency situations.
- Report accidents and incidents on approved forms.
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Instruct all swim levels to patrons of all ages.
- Develop and implement lesson plans for all assigned classes
- Complete paperwork for swim program in a timely and efficient manner, including but not limited to student progress reports, permit to register, attendance, master progress reports, skill checklist.
Reports to:
Aquatic Program Coordinator, Assistant Aquatic Coordinator, and Head Lifeguard
Uniform Requirements:
One-piece swimsuits or Board shorts
Sport shorts, Shorts must be at or past fingertip length (preferred Navy Blue, Black or Red)
Pay Rate: $17.00to $18.00/hour DOE
Hours of Employment:
Flexible scheduling, ideally with a minimum of 5 hours / week. (Can combine hours with other job descriptions). May need to work 5 days / week and / or split shifts.
