Description

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE : Monday - Friday 8 : 00am to 4 : 30pm. Additional hours, including weekends and holidays may be required.

POSITION SUMMARY :

A skilled technical position responsible for the maintenance of all electrical components in all City buildings and properties.

Example Of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as dictated by operational necessity.

  • City representative (Facilities Division) 811 response to electrical locates and dig tickets.
  • Reviewing electrical plans and inspections of contracted work.
  • Installation and Maintenance of all decorative lighting City-wide.
  • Maintenance of all electrical components in all City buildings and properties.
  • Performs routine maintenance duties with facilities and parks and grounds when requested.
  • Maintain and continuously update existing electrical schematics, drawings and documentation.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES :

  • Knowledge of electrical construction and maintenance, including installation of all sizes of electrical panels, conduit, cables, wires, switches, automatic starting equipment, and pole line construction.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions - including but not limited to lock out procedures.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code and relevant City codes.
  • Skill in the care and use of hand tools and equipment necessary to perform various electrical repair tasks such as volt meters and all other related electrical testing equipment.
  • Skill in locating and adjusting defects in electrical systems and equipment.
  • Able to distinguish between the full range of colors in the color spectrum to work with electrical wires and / or traffic signal lights.
  • Able to use graphic instructions such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or other visual aids.
  • Able to estimate labor or material costs / amounts from blueprints or work plans.
  • Able to make mathematical computations.
  • Able to exercise independent thought and action within the scope of specific assignments.
  • Able to comprehend and make inferences from written materials.
  • Able to measure distances with a tape measure or other measuring device.
  • Able to express ideas on technical problems clearly and concisely orally and in writing in the English language.
  • Able to work cooperatively with other City employees, building occupants, and the public.
  • Able to communicate orally in the English language with customers, clients, or the public in face-to-face one-on-one settings, or using a telephone.
  • Able to observe, monitor, or compare data to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards.
  • Able to make decisions and coordinate work based on information given by the customer.
  • Able to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
  • EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS :

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate highly desirable, but not required.
  • Must have at least 5 years' of experience in similar type of work.
  • Journeyman's Electrician License to be obtained within six months of hire
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Occasionally exercises supervisory authority over other City workers on specific projects.
