The City of Puyallup is hiring for a temporary Park Ranger. This will be a 40-hour per week position, with the assignment being June through September. This position is part of the Recreation team, in the Parks and Recreation Department. This job posting is open continuous and may close upon receipt of a qualified applicant pool. The position will report to a Recreation Coordinator and may receive work direction from other city staff.The City of Puyallup is a community of 43,000 and is situated at the foot of scenic Mount Rainier. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Monitor park areas and facilities and ensure a safe environment for all park users. Provide education about Parks and Recreation policies and procedures. Act immediately to address inappropriate behaviors by contacting appropriate staff, law enforcement or other emergency personnel as appropriate. Use weaponless defensive tactics, employing verbal skills to diffuse volatile or hostile situations. Write incident reports and recommendation reports related to park use.Provide assistance and information on park programs and events. Distribute flyers to promote activities and park programs. May act as facility attendant and greeter for scheduled park events. May assist with recreation programs and events scheduled in city parks.Respond to emergencies within City Parks and facilities, ensuring proper procedures are followed and notifications made. Administer first aid and operate an AED machine as needed.Perform litter pick-up and incidental custodial tasks to ensure cleanliness and safety of facility. Communicate custodial grounds and maintenance needs to Park staff.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, other department employees, police officers and emergency personnel.Safely drive city vehicles in the performance of job duties.Safely ride bicycle using proper safety equipment and gear in the performance of job duties.Maintain regular and punctual attendance, including working various shifts including early mornings, evenings and weekends.Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and confidential materials.Work with volunteers, interns, and work study students as assigned.Performs other related work as assigned.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job, including, but not limited to frequently standing for extended periods of time and walking over uneven, rough terrain; riding bicycle safely over uneven, rough terrain and for extended periods of time; communicating verbally to a variety of people; hearing and seeing. Occasionally lift and transport objects weighing up to 50 pounds.Work is performed out-of-doors in all weather conditions and on uneven terrain exposing employee to inclement weather. Employee is required to wear city uniform. Employee is required to use appropriate safety equipment and follow standard safety practices. Involves a high degree of public contact, which may include angry and hostile citizens. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens.SELECTION PROCESSThose applicants whose qualifications most closely correspond to the City's current needs will be contacted for interviews and/or testing.
