The City of Puyallup is hiring for an experienced Recreation Coordinator to join our team! The Recreation division includes a Recreation Manager, three Recreation Coordinators, several part time recreation attendants, and other part time recreational staff.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision of community recreation, special events and specialized recreation and tasks in support of these programs. The incumbent will organize and perform assigned duties, exercising specialized knowledge; and is expected to develop procedures and recreation programs/special events and to be responsible for the flow and completion of assigned work within general guidelines.
Coordinates, supervises, administers, leads and evaluates City-sponsored special events and specialized recreation programs.
Coordinates logistics, including venue selection, permitting, vendor contracts and staffing.
Works with Canva to create and finalize marketing material for social media, brochure, website, flyers, etc.
Creates and implements marketing strategies to promote events and programs through social media, websites, email campaigns and printed material.
Orders supplies and maintains equipment inventory for each program.
Seeks sponsorship and partnerships with local community groups.
Hires and trains part-time employees and volunteers.
Assists in the administration of the recreation budget by determining related budget needs and submitting budget requests to the manager, and analyzing budget expenses.
Answers the telephone, emails and questions concerning department procedures and recreation programs.
Works collaboratively with other city departments and community stakeholders.
Operates computers including registration software (CivicRec) and Microsoft Office Suite programs.
Evaluate programs and events to assess their impact and identify areas for improvement.
Prepares memoranda, correspondence and reports using proper sentence construction, punctuation and grammar.
Routes and tracks documents and other materials for review and approval.
Schedule facilities and fields as needed for recreation programs.
Safely operates city vehicles in the performance of job duties.
Maintain regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
Recreation registration software (CiviRec).
Canva software.
Marketing techniques including for social media platforms and printed materials.
Proper inventory and budget procedures.
- Correct punctuation, spelling, grammar and word usage.
Operation of a variety of office machines such as a personal computer and associated software, 10 key calculator, copier, fax, etc.
Proper cash handling process at events, programs and Recreation Center front counter.
Ability to:
Develop, plan and oversee a variety of community events, programs and activities.
Prepare specialized reports as required.
Demonstrate skill in the application of right to privacy and public disclosure laws, policies and procedures and to maintain confidentiality.
Operate standard office equipment such as calculators, computer, copiers, etc.
Understand and effectively follow both oral and written instructions.
Deal with the public tactfully and courteously in person and on the telephone.
Initiate, devise and adapt improved work methods and procedures to accomplish work assignments in a timely manner.
Provide training to part-time personnel.
Perform required duties accurately and in an efficient manner.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, all department employees, other City employees and the public.
- Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid Washington State driver's license at time of hire.
- Successful candidate must pass a national criminal background check in compliance with the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act, RCW 43.43.830 through 43.43.840.
SELECTION PROCESS
Those applicants whose qualifications most closely correspond to the City's current needs will be contacted for interviews and/or testing. The appointing authority may conduct second interviews.
Notification – Following submission of application, an email acknowledgment receipt of application is given. Persons selected for an interview and/or testing will be notified by email, normally within 15 working days following the closing date on the job announcement.

Hours of Work – Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with one (1) hour lunch. Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required. The department supports a telework policy that allows employees to work remote up to one day per week.
