POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for supervising, planning, prioritizing, assigning, and directing work of the fleet division staff in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Administers a complete garage parts operation and catalogs, orders, and maintains inventory of automotive and equipment parts for the City garage; writes service work orders for required maintenance for City vehicles and equipment.


JOB DUTIES:

  • Coordinate, schedule, assign and supervise preventative and routine maintenance on city vehicles and
  • Provide work instruction to employees on the work to be performed, materials needed and the equipment
  • Provide timely, accurate responses to requests for services and
  • Assist in the development of innovative programs and methods for delivering high quality customer service in the fleet division to promote communication and adequate information flow with the other departments/divisions and vendors.
  • Generates job orders for repairs to City vehicles and equipment; responsible for entering labor and job parts
  • Cross trains with the Fleet Administrative Assistant on entering job
  • Develops and maintains records related to fleet repair and
  • Responsible for receiving, managing, organizing, ordering and maintaining parts
  • Seeks competitive pricing on parts and
  • Maintains and tracks warranties on new vehicles and
  • Answers radio and phone regarding breakdowns on the street and other
  • Monitors towing of City vehicles and
  • Report to fleet supervisor on the performance of staff members and the status of work
  • Ensure that all organizational activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and laws and conformance to acceptable standards and
  • Other duties as


SNOW REMOVAL DUTIES:

  • Oversee snow removal crews on the night shift {6pm- 6am) from approximately October 1- April

QUALIFICATIONS:


Training and Experience

Preferred an Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school. Four years progressively responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of automotive, truck and heavy equipment systems; or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Extensive knowledge of the professional and technical standards of fleet management; of current trends and technological developments pertaining to procurement, utilization, operation, budget/cost allocation, and fuel/maintenance; principles and practices of management, budgeting, and cost control; knowledge of principles and practices of automotive repair shop management of automotive and heavy equipment; applicable Federal and State Safety and Health Regulations; extensive knowledge of effective supervisory principles; knowledge of applicable labor agreements; and thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Excellent skill in public, employee and labor relations and in maintaining effective working relationships; skill in business practices applicable to fleet management (i.e., system analysis, computer utilization, and financial record keeping0; establishing and standardizing vehicle replacement policies and developing preventative maintenance programs; conducting cost-effective procurement, resource utilization, budget, and project cost analysis; preparing clear and comprehensive oral and written reports; establishing and maintaining cooperative work relationships with those contacted through the course of work; basic organizational skills are required especially in maintaining inventories; operation of a personal computer using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; accounting software -THE knowledge preferred.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of the materials and situations encountered on the job; effectively communicate orally and in writing; read and comprehend technical information (i.e., shop manuals, modification costs, reconcile charges and perform diagnostics and modifications; juggle multiple priorities; work under varied work schedules; and direct work of other employees.


Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Illinois Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL-B) with tanker and passenger endorsements or equivalent within 45 days.of hire.
  • Master Level Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification preferred or minimum completion 2 ASE within 120 days of employment
  • Master Level Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certification preferred or minimum completion of 2 EVTs within 120 days of hire

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock; and occasionally exposed to wet, humid and varied weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually load.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:


Employee shall reside within the boundaries of Adams County, Illinois within six months of the effective date of employment with the City of Quincy.

Salary : $58,000 - $65,000
