Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE :
Performs inspections and enforcement of residential, commercial and industrial properties in securing compliance with city and state building, Zoning and related codes under the supervision of the Chief Building Inspector and / or Building Inspector III.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
- Examine plans and specifications for residential and commercial building construction and alterations. Determines whether such plans satisfy the provisions of the building code; approves or denies applications for building permits. Issues appropriate construction permits.
- Inspects construction of considerable variety, embracing all sizes and types of projects at various stages of progress as to excavations, footings, foundations, walls, roofs and oversees complete construction up to and including issuance of Final Certificate of Inspection.
- Performs inspections and notifies owners of violations of the City Building and Zoning Ordinances and secures compliance with these ordinances.
- Enforces the City of Racine zoning and development ordinances and makes investigations and decisions regarding zoning complaints. Works closely with Zoning Administrator and the Planning Division to gain compliance with conditions of Conditional Use Permits.
ASSOCIATED DUTIES :
Building Inspector II will attend meetings and serves as representative for Building Division in the absence of Chief Building and / or Building Inspector III.
