What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2025 Main Gallery ARTIST ASSISTANT position at City of Racine?
We are seeking highly organized and creative Main Gallery Artist Assistants to support and work alongside professional artists leading a group of teens aged 14-17 in daily tasks, operations and creative projects from conception to completion. This role is ideal for someone passionate about the arts, detail-oriented, and eager to work in a dynamic, creative environment. Will report directly to the lead artist and program supervisor. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Assist with the preparation of materials, tools and supplies for projects
- Maintains records and reports on assigned programs
- Help with organizing, cataloging and maintain artwork and inventory
- Manage studio upkeep, including cleaning and arranging workspace efficiently
- Transport artwork or materials to exhibitions or storage when needed
- Provides hands-on assistance with young artists and event coordination
- Conduct research and source inspiration for upcoming projects
- Photograph and document work-in-progress and completed pieces
- Maintains a consistent and reliable attendance record
- Maintains records of attendance and monitors youth work hours
- Reports disciplines regarding situations
- Performs related work as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor, as some programs varyMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• A graduate of high school and currently enrolled in college coursework.
• Reliable transportation (if travel is required)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Background in the fields of education, recreation and arts education preferred
• Experience working with youth/at-risk youth is desired
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact professionally
• Ability to lift and move materials as required for work
• Experience in basic arts education and practices (creative writing, painting, photography, etc.)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITION:
Duties involve the regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking/running over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, kneeling, leaping, jumping down, standing in place or continual walking, lifting and carrying of moderate to heavy items (including people) on a consistent basis.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS OF THE POSITION:
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat & cold, and rain. Exposure to open water with variable conditions. Possible travel in PRCS vans for field trips.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Copy machine, telephone, cell phones, computer, fax machine, scissors, and miscellaneous office equipment. Microphone, Speakers, Podium/Stage. Furniture Tools-Including but not limited to, sanders, sandpaper, primer, paint, sealer, wood, etc. Photography Equipment-including, but not limited to: cameras, processing fluid, tongs, etc. Writing Tools-Including but not limited to, notebook, writing utensils-pens, makers, etc.
EXPECTED WORK SCHEDULE:
Mid-June to Early August. Monday – Thursday with availability for possible weekend hours. 20-25 hours weekly (depending on program schedule needs)
