Program Events Director

This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative and visionary leader to direct programs and events at Pullen Park Historic Attractions. The Program and Event Director position requires proven experience in event planning and program implementation. A key responsibility of the position is overseeing production of Holiday Express, Pullen Park’s signature winter event.

About Us:

Pullen Park is a sixty-seven (67) acre park located in Raleigh, NC and located within the City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department and managed by the Historic Resources and Museums Program. Pullen Park is the first and oldest public park in North Carolina. The City of Raleigh, the Capital City of North Carolina, remains one of the fastest growing areas in the country focusing on environmental, cultural, and economic sustainability. The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department has more than 9,700 acres of parkland and almost 1,300 acres of water, offering recreational activities year-round. An acclaimed greenway system spans nearly 100 miles, providing trails that connect many of the city’s 217 parks. The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department boasts over 200 parks including features like historic attractions, art centers, athletic facilities, community centers, lakes, nature preserves, off-leash dog parks, playgrounds, swimming pools, historic sites, museums, and open spaces.

Work Hours:

This position is required to work during the hours that Pullen Park is open to the public. This includes Monday - Friday; 10:00 am - 8:00 pm with some nights and rotating weekend work.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide administrative and management support for all facets of park management, including program and event development and maintenance, staff supervision and scheduling, administrative management, and budget oversight
• Oversee revenue and expenditure accounts for Pullen Park
• Work closely with neighborhood and community organizations to develop programming and events
• Review all programs, special events, and classes prior to implementation
• Oversee development and distribution of marketing materials and work with universities, local organizations, and civic groups to promote programs and special events
• Support public/private partnerships
• Drive gators around park premises and shuttle staff and/or patrons when needed

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation or directly related field and up to one year of related experience

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing and Certifications:

• Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Parks and Recreation or directly related field with 3 years of related experience
