Job Description
Raleigh Water Engineering Inspection Supervisors provide inspection services and supervise up to four (4) Senior Engineering Inspectors. Inspectors provide on-site management and inspection services for City funded water and wastewater utility construction projects within Raleigh Water's Capital Improvement Program (CIP). In additional to inspection duties, supervisors conduct performance evaluations, review documentation, coordinate training, and facilitate hiring, discipline and termination procedures as necessary.
Successful candidates are self-motivated, organized, and detail oriented. Inspectors and Supervisors must be able to work independently while regularly collaborating effectively with a variety of project stakeholders. Candidates must be able to read and interpret project plans, specifications, and understand regulatory requirements and applicable laws. The ability to evaluate varying field conditions, apply appropriate requirements and determine reasonable solutions are essential skills for success.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Primary duties include conducting daily field inspections to verify construction activities are in compliance with project plans, specifications, and other regulatory agency requirements
- Inspectors are also responsible for generating and maintaining accurate documentation on construction activities, tracking installed quantities for project payment approvals, evaluating proposed field changes, coordinating with Project Engineers and Contractors to resolve issues, and consistently providing a high level of customer service
- Supervisors support Engineering Inspection staff in their duties and offer technical assistance to ensure Inspection responsibilities are consistently met
- Typical daily activities include utility installation observation, on site material testing, utilization of electronic devices to collect data, and addressing customer inquiries / concerns
- In addition to Inspection responsibilities Supervisors review and approve timesheets, inspection reports and other Inspector generated documentation
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience :
Associate's Degree in engineering or directly related field and four years of paraprofessional engineering experience in area of assignment which includes experience at the senior technician, specialist, or lead level.
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
