Job Description

Join our team at the Emergency Communications Center as a Technology Systems Administrator and play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and secure operation of our complex IT infrastructure. As a Technology Systems Administrator , you will provide comprehensive support for our applications, network, and users, managing and maintaining critical systems that impact the entire organization. The successful candidate will be devoted to providing overall administration of large, complex computer system or networks, with enterprise-wide impact, including daily operations, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, planning, training and security. The Technology Systems Administrator also leads and mentors a team of support staff, including performance evaluations, training coordination, and personnel management (hiring, discipline, and termination).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides overall administration of a large or complex computer system or network and provides daily operational support. May supervise staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures.
  • Assists with the planning, installation, configuration, and maintenance of various technology systems and related equipment; evaluates hardware and software compatibility; establishes priorities; performs testing; monitors and maintains system security and integrity.
  • Provides on-site and / or remote technical support; researches, troubleshoots and identifies complex technical issues and root causes; analyzes issues and processes; details findings; resolves issues; provides technical instruction and training to users; provides resource materials for reference and operational support.
  • Monitors system / operational performance measures; researches and evaluates processes; identifies system requirements and related costs; works with vendors regarding system / application maintenance and upgrade requirements; prepares and presents recommendations for enhancements and related proposals.
  • Prepares, updates and maintains technical documentation, files and records; manages and maintains databases and related information tracking.
  • Serves on project planning teams and steering committees; provides support of technology projects and related tasks including scope definition, resource allocation, scheduling, budgeting and monitoring deliverables.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience

Associate's degree in computer science, information technology or directly related field and four years of related technology support experience.

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

  • ADA and Other Requirements :

    Positions in this class typically require : stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

    Medium Work :

    Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    Working Conditions :

    Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.); frequent exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, blood and other body fluids); frequent exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and movement restrictions; and moderate exposure intense noise or travel.
