This position is the first level supervisor who directly leads a team of Automotive Technicians, Medium/Heavy Truck and Equipment Technicians and Preventative Maintenance Technicians. This role ensures shop safety, a high level of work quality, efficient work output, employee accountability, training, and development, and other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate would be a proven leader who’s previously worked in the Automotive industry in a Supervisor, Shop Foreman, or Lead Tech role. A candidate that works well with others and has effective communication skills. A candidate who’s familiar with labor times, technical resources, personnel and shop policies.

We are a division within the Engineering Services Department. We have 81 full time positions that consists of technicians, service writers, parts staff, supervisors/managers, fiscal/accounting staff, and more! We have over 4,700 assets and perform preventative maintenance services and repairs on all types of equipment such as mowers, backhoes, police cars, SUV’s, trash trucks, dump trucks, and more. Provides supervision of fleet maintenance operational activities which may include: providing assistance in managing overall fleet services repair and preventative maintenance; supervising assigned garage or repair facility operations and vehicle/equipment repairs; and/or managing parts inventory and maintenance control for assigned division
Supervise staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures
Monitors operational activities to review service quality, timeliness, adherence with maintenance schedules, and to ensure overall safety and adherence with standards, policies and procedures
Provides technical expertise in diagnosing issues as required; ensures appropriate repair resource documentation is available
Responds to customer calls and inquiries; reviews work orders, verifies service provided and provides service status updates; shares information related to repair needs, requirements and completed work; addresses complaints concerning repair work and determines need for corrections or additional work
Reviews parts and materials inventory and specifications and/or external service needs; gathers estimates, specifications and related information for inventory or service needs; reviews quotations; initiates purchase requisitions and/or coordination of service work
Prepares, maintains and/or reviews reports and data related to service activity, preventative maintenance, productivity, expenditures, invoicing, fleet vehicle/equipment tracking, and/or operational budgeting
Oversees the organization, maintenance and upkeep of assigned facility, garage, equipment, inventory, parts and supplies
High School Diploma or GED and six years of maintenance experience related to assignment
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
- Valid North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
- Air Conditioning 609 Certification or the ability to obtain
