What are the responsibilities and job description for the Park Specialist – Lake Johnson Park (Part-time) position at City of Raleigh North Carolina?
The City of Raleigh is seeking part-time Park Specialist to perform a variety of tasks in support of outdoor recreation at Lake Johnson Park. This part-time, seasonal position is responsible for providing outstanding customer service, facilitating memorable park experiences, assisting in park operations, and facilitating park programs and private events. Successful candidates will work with the public while incorporating outdoor ethical practices through park operations and programmatic opportunities. This position typically works 1 to 3 six-hour shifts per week. Successful candidates have availability to work evenings, weekends, or both.Follow facility opening and closing procedures
Greet patrons and answer general questions
Safely reposition classroom tables and chairs, including folding, unfolding, and moving them to other rooms within the facility
Monitor the park and facilities for the safety and comfort of visitors
Assist visitors with registration software, properly collecting fees in accordance with cash handling policies and procedures
Deliver outdoor recreation & environmental education programs
Operate Park vehicles, including John Deere gator
Experience in small trailer towing preferred Knowledge:
Risk management practice in outdoor recreation venues
The values and principals of outdoor recreation and environmental education
Proper techniques, rules, and etiquette for various outdoor recreational, and environmental educational activities
Skills:
Enthusiasm in working with diverse populations:
Confidence in dealing with conflict resolution:
Work as a team member promoting a shared vision and positive workplace culture;
Abilities:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Lift up to 50 pounds independently
Current valid Driver’s License or able to obtain City of Raleigh Drivers Permit
Work in an outdoor environment, including various weather conditions independently
Applicants with previous experience in teaching/instructing and customer service experience, ideally in outdoor recreational and nature-based programs or setting, are encouraged to apply.
