The Senior Maintenance Technician serves as the lead worker to safely maintain parks in the City of Raleigh and provide exceptional experiences for park patrons. This critical leadership role is assigned to parks maintenance District 4, which is composed of 34 parks on over 200 acres of land, including Laurel Hills Park and the Sassafras All Children's Playground, Jaycee Park, Fred Fletcher Park, Ridge Road Pool, and Isabella Canon Park among others. District 4 has eight fulltime staff and three part-time positions. This job will have supervisor responsibilities, managing a crew of 5-6 people depending on staffing and also may fill in place of supervisor when needed and perform the lead role in the field.

- Perform general repair and maintenance of park property, including operating various equipment and tools for landscaping, cleaning, and repairs
- Work effectively in public settings while completing maintenance tasks across multiple park locations
- Assist in pesticide applications by serving as a certified spotter for licensed applicators
- Drive a commercial truck with a trailer, hauling materials and equipment over 26,000 pounds
- Ensure safety measures are followed on-site, assist with employee training, and recommend improvements to work methods and equipment performance
- Maintain communication and document work progress using computer applications, and assist with reports, performance reviews, and budget concerns
High School Diploma or GED and three years of assignment-related equipment operation/driving or specialized maintenance experience
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire
- Experience with enterprise software preferred, including CityWorks, GIS Collector and Peoplesoft
Knowledge of:
- Coaching and leading work teams, including organizing, prioritizing, and monitoring tasks
- Modern office technology including Microsoft Office Suite and other basic computer applications
- Standard practices, materials, and systems related to assigned work
- Understanding of business math concepts and basic project management principles
- Filing, record-keeping, and safety practices in the workplace
- Proficiency with specialized equipment and supplies relevant to the assignment
- Applicable laws, regulations, and customer service principles
Skill in:
- Training, coaching, and directing staff while coordinating work assignments, deadlines, and priorities
- Inspecting equipment, monitoring safety conditions, and ensuring compliance with safety standards
- Maintaining attention to detail, organizing records, and updating data and documentation
- Performing business math computations and interpreting reference materials, manuals, and regulations
- Operating tools and equipment effectively while applying relevant laws, codes, and standards
ADA and Other Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Heavy Work:
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); and frequent exposure to intense noise.
