The City of Raleigh is seeking a Survey Crew Chief within our Engineering department devoted to providing paraprofessional engineering support, inspection and professional civil engineering for a variety of public works and environmental functions and projects. Incumbents provide specialized and technical activities in support of an engineering function. As assigned, and based on specialization, work may include calculating assessments; inspecting and investigating infrastructure and/or customer complaints; assisting with cost estimates or preparing preliminary estimates for minor maintenance; compiling and maintaining data; providing field inspections of assigned infrastructure and/or projects; and providing professional surveys and updating CADD information.
- Provides specialized and technical activities in support of an assigned engineering function; serves as a liaison for internal and external clients in support of assigned projects; may perform quality assurance inspections, identify deficiencies or maintenance requirements, verify project activities, conduct survey work, and/or serve as on-site contact for project contractors, engineers and property owners
- Provides customer assistance and responds to inquiries, complaints and information requests; performs basic research or investigations, verifies and provides general procedure/process information; refers complex requests to appropriate resource
- Assists in reviewing plans, proposals and maps; performs mathematical calculations; conducts basic analysis and/or geospatial analysis; may provide site and service assessments to determine issues and provide recommendations
- Reviews and verifies documentation; updates, organizes and maintains data tracking spreadsheets, databases, digital maps, requests, plans, schedules, project documentation and/or presentation materials
- Attends various meetings which may include City Council meetings, committee meetings, project reviews, and public meetings; prepares supporting documentation; provides communication materials and updates related to projects, recommendations and programs
- Collects field data and measurements; prepares preliminary cost estimates; scores and ranks projects; reviews timelines; and may provide review and tracking of contracts and related services, amendments, change orders and /or project schedules
- Monitors supplies, equipment and materials inventory; initiates orders to maintain inventory levels; assists in monitoring available funds
- Assists with special projects and/or serves on functional teams for special processes or audits
Associate's Degree in engineering or directly related field and two years of paraprofessional engineering experience, preferably in area of assignment

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications:
