The City of Raleigh is seeking a Traffic Signal Superintendent to join our Transportation Department. This role entails overseeing 6 to 8 Traffic Signal senior technicians and technicians to maintain the operational integrity of Raleigh’s traffic signal system. This position will be responsible for managing the daily operations, coordinating schedules, maintaining compliance with local, State, and Federal regulations, and ensuring high quality work standards. Making sure inventory, tools, and materials are available when needed. Organizing trainings to keep techs updated and certified on safety and operational standards. The Superintendent will also be responsible for fostering a positive team environment, supporting professional development, and driving efficiencies in all processes.

About Us:
The Traffic Engineering Group at the City of Raleigh is responsible for maintaining the City's traffic and pedestrian signal accommodations to ensure safe and efficient travel for all road users. Our team focuses on maintaining the operation, and installation of all forms of traffic signals that guide, inform, and protect drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
- Supervise staff including assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures
- Plans, coordinates, and organizes schedules, project timelines, technical/equipment resources and staff or contracted support of maintenance and activities
- Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory standards, service quality, operational and organizational policies and procedures. Monitors and ensures work zone safety measures are adhered to
- Monitors, administers, and maintains resource inventory and operational budget; reviews and tracks expenditures; monitors budget compliance
- Collaborate with other city departments and stakeholders to coordinate projects and address concerns
- Inspect and provide technical guidance to any private contractor working on traffic signals in our corporate limits
Associate's Degree in a related field and four years of related experience that includes experience at the senior or lead level
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
- Valid North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
- IMSA Level II or higher
Knowledge of:
Supervisory Principles, practices, and techniques
Hands-on understanding of traffic signal equipment, construction practices, and standards (City, State, and Federal (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices))
Knowledge of electronic components and how to repair
Contract management
Safety codes and regulations- Prioritizes safety in all operations and enforces safety protocols
Skills in:

Strong verbal and written communication for team coordination and reporting
Producing reports and managing work in Cityworks software
