Job Description
The City of Raleigh is seeking a motivated person to work as Exhibits Specialist within the Historic Resources and Museum (HRM) Program. This position reports directly to the Curator of Exhibits and Design and will be responsible for research, graphics, fabrication, installation, implementation, and maintenance of exhibits at Borden Building, City of Raleigh Museum, Dr. M.T. Pope House Museum, John P. “Top” Greene Community Center, Latta House and University Site, Moore Square, Mordecai Historic Park, Pope House Museum, Pullen Park Historic Attractions, and Tucker House. These exhibits are permanent, temporary, traveling, and virtual.
This position works up to 19 hours per week, during the timeframe of Monday-Friday 9am-5:30pm. The office is based out of the Tucker House and onsite work will happen at all locations.
Applicants must pass a background check and controlled substance test, as well as all required future trainings.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Visual research related to the specifics of each project.
- File prep with extensive knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and inDesign.
- Fabrication of exhibit components using carpentry skills.
- Installation includes wall prep, painting, applying vinyl, hanging panels, and other design components.
- Maintenance includes cleaning and repairing existing exhibits.
- Virtual exhibits include file prep using Microsoft word and content management.
Typical Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's (4-year) college degree or equivalent in Exhibit Design, Scenic Design, Graphic Design, Museum Studies, Art, or another relevant field preferred. Applicants may substitute additional field experience for the required education.
Experience
At least 3 years of relevant experience is required. Applicants may substitute additional relevant education for the required experience. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
