Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and motivate small groups in energizing fitness classes, such as Yoga, Boot Camp, Functional Movement, Pound Fitness, or other strength, cardio, and flexibility-based activities.
Guide participants on proper exercise techniques and equipment use to ensure a safe and effective workout.
Foster a welcoming and supportive environment that encourages community members to reach their fitness goals.
Prepares class materials, including music, equipment, and workout plans to enhance participant experience.
Ensures a safe and inclusive space for all participants, following Raleigh Parks guidelines and policies.
Track class attendance and participant feedback to continually improve offerings.
Typical Qualifications
Passionate & Certified: Minimum 1 year of group fitness instruction experience (required).
CPR & First Aid Certification (preferred).
Nationally recognized fitness certification (ACSM, NSCA, NASM, ACHA, etc.) is required.
Specialty certifications in Yoga, Bootcamp, Functional Movement, Pound Fitness, or similar preferred.
Strong knowledge of teaching strategies, music integration, cueing, and motivation techniques.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage diverse participants.
Ability to demonstrate exercises effectively and adapt movements for all fitness levels.
Classes are held at multiple City of Raleigh locations—applicants should indicate their preferred locations and willingness to travel between sites.
Additional Information
Instructors must be available to work a flexible schedule, which may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
