About Us:
The City of Raleigh is seeking a Maintenance Specialist to join our team! Joining our Transportation Maintenance Division will provide an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in the maintenance of critical infrastructure such as sidewalks, curbs and gutter, asphalt, and storm drains.
Within the Transportation Stormwater Maintenance CCTV Unit, your impact becomes even more crucial. Your work will directly impact the long-term performance and resilience of our stormwater system. You will help maintain and repair 610 miles of pipes and culverts, 32,000 inlets, and 3,500 junctions. With 1,130 centerline miles of streets under your care, you’ll be an instrumental part of a team dedicated to the sustainability and functionality of our stormwater assets and public waterways.

About You:

Together with your assigned team, you will perform ground work including inspecting drainage structures using CCTV and data collection systems, cleaning storm drains and catch basins, pipe repair and maintenance, and general street maintenance related duties.
You will lead construction activities using manual labor and power tools including weed trimmers, various saws, air hammers, compaction equipment, small mechanical hoists, and a variety of excavation equipment related to the maintenance and repair of storm drain infrastructure. You may be assigned other street maintenance related duties as needed.
You must be able to work around scaffolding, safely perform confined space entries, and accurately read a street map. You will have the ability to train and develop your assigned team. You will be required to work extended hours during emergencies, and inclement weather. Additionally, you will need to be ambitious and proactive by undertaking other assigned duties and required and seek opportunities to improve yourself and those around you. Your skills and commitment will play a crucial role in fulfilling these responsibilities and contributing to the overall success of our team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees and performs semi-skilled general maintenance
Selects proper maintenance tools and equipment for tasks
Oversees and performs work following established safety policies and procedures and applicable codes and regulations
Oversees and performs storm drain and catch basin cleaning and repairs.
Oversees and performs pipe maintenance and repairs
Inspects and maintains tools and equipment by changing out worn or damaged parts, monitoring safe operational use, and/or cleaning equipment
Inspects facilities and structures; identifies and documents required repairs
Has the skills, ability, and desire to train and develop others.
Will be required to work extended hours on rotating shifts during emergencies and inclement weather
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and four years of experience in equipment operation, driving or formal trades
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
- Valid North Carolina Class A Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
- Tanker Endorsement
- PACP Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
