The PRCR Department plays a leading role in the quality of life and character of the Capital City. The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department is seeking candidates who align with the City's values, is team-oriented, and a leader with passion and vision for parks and serving the community.
The Maintenance Worker position will work as part of a team to maintain the landscape and grounds within Raleigh’s Parks system. The successful candidate will communicate well, be reliable, safety conscious, and possess a strong work ethic.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains a variety of park landscapes by mowing, edging, trimming, mulching, and leaf removal.
- Assist crew in installing watering plants and pruning trees and shrubs.
- safely operates and maintains machinery, including out-front and zero-turn mower, tractor, string trimmer, edger, and backpack blower.
- Performs preventative equipment maintenance, including replacing worn or damaged parts, sharpening blades, and greasing machinery.
- Assist Gardener as their assistant, spraying pesticides, bed preparation, landscape installations, and removal of invasive plants.
- Occasionally perform repair work and preventative maintenance on and installation of tables, benches, fences, signs, etc.
- Assists the City in cleanup and repair during inclement weather situations.
- May require working extended hours and weekends during storm events.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED and one year of maintenance or customer service experience related to assignment.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing/Certifications
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
