What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Maintenance Worker position at City of Ramsey?
The primary objectives of this position are to assist in maintaining city facilities including, but not limited to buildings, offices, meeting rooms, HVAC equipment and grounds of the Ramsey Municipal Center, Fire Stations, City Parks, Public Works Facility and the Municipal Parking Ramp. The position reports to the Building Maintenance Supervisor.
This is a full-time AFSCME Union position working 40 hours a week. Monday through Thursday working from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. This position requires flexibility within the normal schedule in order to provide coverage for elections/voting, snow removal activities, or other tasks as needed.
The 2025 hiring range is: Step 1: $26.615 to Step 3: $29.276/hour DOQ.
The 2025 wage scale is: Step 1 $26.615 - Step 2 $27.945 - Step 3 $29.276 - Step 4 $30.607 - Step 5 $31.938 - Step 6 $33.268/hour DOQ.

- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Must have a valid Minnesota driver’s license with a good driving record
- Must have at least six (6) months of experience in janitorial work or building maintenance and repair
- Must have a special Class C Boilers License or have the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire
DESIRED QUALIFCTIONS:
- Possess six (6) months experience in small appliance maintenance
- Possess six (6) months experience in general vehicle repair and maintenance
- Previous work experience at municipality, county or state offices
- Perform janitorial services
- Monitor and perform maintenance on utility systems
- Run errands
- Set-up and clean-up for meetings
- Perform basic building and equipment repairs
- Assist City Clerk with management of elections equipment
- Perform Fleet Management
- Perform Landscape Maintenance
- Perform a wide range of tasks (within the ability of the Building Maintenance Worker) at the verbal or written direction of the Building Maintenance Supervisor, City Engineer / Public Works Director, or their designee
- Knowledge of janitorial procedures and practices
- Knowledge of and ability to perform routine vehicle and equipment repair
- Skilled in the use of hand tools and applicable motorized equipment
- Skilled in maintenance of utility systems
- Ability to prioritize work and perform duties independently
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions in English
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, staff and residents
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to adjust work schedule for staff absences
