THE POSITION
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is an EIT with experience in serving development communities and solving development and engineering related challenges, working as a team, and communicating with the public and developers. Experience in capital infrastructure design and construction is highly desired.
Qualified candidates will have knowledge of City of Rancho Cordova Ordinances, City Standards, County of Sacramento Improvement Standards, and Standard Construction Specifications. Experience in capital infrastructure, project delivery, project & contract management, project design, and street and grading civil design is highly desirable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Performs subprofessional and professional engineering work by participating in the implementation of the City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP); traffic and transportation engineering programs; supervise and participate in the development and revision of plans and specifications for the development of various projects including: roadway design, site development, land development, traffic signals, neighborhood traffic calming, and pedestrian and bicycle facilities; construction projects related to water utility, street, storm drain and sanitary sewer pump stations, street lighting, traffic signal, buildings, and related public works and City building projects; work with consultant engineers, and other agency representatives on private and public projects; research project design requirements, building codes, publications and industry information.
- Performs complex calculations and prepares estimates of material costs and time considerations; assists in the solution of difficult problems; investigates field problems affecting property owners, contractors, and maintenance operations; prepares estimates and feasibility reports for new or modified services and structures.
- Participates in the plan check, review, and processing of plans for private developments affecting streets, sewers, drains and related public works facilities and ensure that they meet all City imposed requirements; checks building plans for compliance with City building codes and ordinances.
- Serves as staff to a variety of City commissions, boards, and committees on public works, utility matters, or building code appeals issues; and coordinates planning, design, and construction activities with other City departments, divisions, and sections, and with outside agencies.
- Administers contracts for construction projects; performs contract management by negotiating, preparing and managing consultant contracts and contractors.
- Maintains inventory and prioritizes maintenance needs for roadways and sidewalks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Equivalent to the completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in civil engineering or a related field.

One (1) year of technical engineering experience.
- Capital Improvement Project specific experience is highly desirable.
- Possession of a valid Engineer-In-Training (EIT) with the State of California
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Requires the mobility and manual dexterity to work in a standard office environment, use standard office equipment and attend off-site meetings; speech and hearing to communicate in person and by telephone; vision to read handwritten and printed materials and a computer screen; and strength and agility to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. On a continuous basis work in an office environment sitting at a desk for long periods of time; travel from job site to job site sitting in vehicle; bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist while performing field work; may be exposed to dust, noise, machinery, moving objects and other vehicles while performing field work; may work on uneven or slippery surfaces; and may intermittently perform field work while exposed to various types of weather including extreme heat during summer months and cold temperatures during the winter months. 1959 Survivor Benefit (Indexed Level) - The 1959 Survivor Benefit provides a monthly allowance to eligible survivors of members who die while actively employed. The monthly benefit payable to survivors in the Indexed Level increases by 2% each year. Benefit amounts as of 2024 are $804, $1,608 and $2,413 for 1, 2, or 3 eligible survivors.
457 and 401(a) Deferred Compensation Plan
- City will contribute $23.08 per pay period into the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan on behalf of the employee.
- City will match up to 3% of the base salary for employees who participate in the 457 plan. City match is placed in a 401(a) plan. There is no vesting period.
- Employees may also voluntarily participate in the 401(a) defined contribution retirement program; however, election must be made upon hire and is irrevocable during employment with the city.

Medical Benefits
Retiree Health - CalPERS plans made available and retiree medical contribution offered toward the cost of the plan. In 2024, the retiree medical contribution is $157.00 per month. The retiree medical contribution will continue to increase until it is equal to the minimum contribution required by CalPERS for the employer to pay on behalf of an employee.
