Building Inspector II

Senior Building InspectorMinimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Building Inspector II: Hourly Range - $41.02 - $50.19
Licensure or Certification
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license
        Required Certifications: 
  • Possession of a current International Code Council (ICC) certification as either a Commercial Building Inspector, Residential Building Inspector, Building Plans Examiner, OR Residential Plans Examiner.
    • Possession of specialized ICC certifications related to building inspection or plans review are desirable.
Education/Training
  • Equivalent to completion of a high school diploma, specialized training in building inspections, the construction trades, or a related field is desirable.
Experience
  • Two (2) years of building inspection experience as a Building Inspector I with the City of Rancho Cordova,
       OR
  • Three (3) years related experience in other building inspection agency.

Senior Building Inspector: Hourly Range - $47.14 - $57.72
Licensure or Certification
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license
       Required Certifications: 
  • Possession of a current International Code Council (ICC) certification as one of the following:
    • Commercial Combination Inspector OR
    • Residential Combination Inspector OR
    • Commercial Building Inspector AND Residential Building Inspector, plus two (2) or more additional ICC certifications (such as Mechanical, Plumbing, or Electrical Inspector).
  • A combination of ICC certifications may be accepted based on the needs of the department and approval by the Building Official.
  • Preferred Certification: Certified Accessibility Specialist (CASp)
Education/Training
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade is required. 
  • An associate's degree in Building Inspection Technology, Construction Management, or a related filed is desirable and may substitute for one year of required experience.  
Experience
  • At least two (2) years of experience as a Building Inspector II with the City of Rancho Cordova
       OR
  • Three (3) years of senior-level building inspection experience with another public agency, particularly inspecting commercial projects and leading complex enforcement actions. 
    • Experience in code enforcement, training of junior staff, and coordinating with multiple departments and stakeholders on large-scale projects is preferred.

Requires the mobility to work in the field and walk over rough and uneven surfaces and manual dexterity to work in a standard office environment sitting at a desk for long periods of time. 

Manual dexterity to operate calculators, cameras, computers, grasp tools, hand-held printers and inspect electrical devices.

Use standard office equipment and attend off-site meetings.

Travel from job site to job site operating and sitting in vehicle.

Bend, squat, kneel and twist while performing field work; climb ladders into attics or crawl under raised floors; walk on roofs, including sloped roofs.

Exposure to dust, noise, machinery, moving objects and other vehicles while performing field work; and exposure to various types of weather during field work including extreme heat during summer months and cold temperatures during the winter months. 

       Speech and hearing to communicate in person and by telephone.

Vision to read handwritten and printed materials and a computer screen.

Color vision to inspect electrical wiring.

Smell to detect gas or sewage leaks.

Touch to determine hot and cold-water fixtures.

Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds such as plans, tools, files, books or boxes of paper for distances up to 100 feet.
