As a Park Ranger, you will patrol City parks and recreation areas, ensuring the safety of patrons and staff while protecting public property. You'll enforce City ordinances, assist in emergencies, and serve as a welcoming presence in our parks and recreational spaces.
This position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, enjoyable environment for everyone who visits our parks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Conducts regular patrols of assigned premises while presenting a courteous and professional public image.
- Responds to alarms, emergencies, and incidents and take appropriate actions as necessary, including contacting law enforcement or other relevant agencies.
- Performs basic first aid as needed.
- Enforces City security policies and procedures.
- Maintains communication using radios and radio procedures.
- Provides security and traffic control during special events and activities, as directed.
- Explains and interprets rules and other applicable regulations to citizens of the City’s Park and Recreation facilities.
- Reports and documents security incidents, suspicious activities, and safety hazards.
- De-escalates situations, as needed, protecting City property and its patrons.
- Assists with emergency evacuations and drills.
- Maintains and ensures the functionality of any applicable security equipment.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- 3 years of experience in security operations or related fields is required.
- A combination of education and experience deemed appropriate to fulfill the role and responsibilities of this position will be considered.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days from the date of hire.
- Must possess or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within 6 months or an acceptable time amount of time as determined by the hiring authority.
- Possess or obtain a Security License issued by the Rapid City Police Department within 6 months or an acceptable amount of time as determined by the hiring authority and must complete continued education as required by position needs.
Other Skills/Abilities:
To be successful, applicants should also possess the following
- Knowledge of law enforcement, ordinances, rules, and regulations related to public use of parks and facilities.
- First aid and/or CPR experience.
- Ability to de-escalate situations and exercise good judgment in stressful or emergency situations.
- Operate computers, related software, or equipment to carry out assigned work duties.
- Maintain effective communication and working relationships with the public and other employees
