ABOUT OUR JOB The Street Light Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing city-owned street lighting. Assisting the City Electrician with maintaining and locating electrical infrastructure for the Traffic Engineering and Operations division.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Repairs existing High-Intensity Discharge (HID) street light equipment, including work associated with bulb, photo cell, and fuse.
- Installs street light equipment to manufacture specifications, including replacing existing HID luminaires to LED luminaires.
- Assists City Electrician with maintenance, repair, and new electrical infrastructure work.
- Assists with maintaining accurate service maintenance records.
- Assists with performing electrical locates on city-owned systems such as traffic signals, streetlights, and city-owned fiber optic cable using underground utility locating equipment.
- Prioritizes assignments in order to complete work in a timely and efficient manner.
- Works safely by maintaining a clean and secure work area and following safety rules and safe work practices.
- Operates various machinery and tools, including sign trucks, bucket trucks, forklifts, and specialized tools for project work.
- Utilizes safety equipment, sets up traffic control and safety devices at work sites, and monitors work environment to ensure the safety of employees and others.
- Performs general and preventative maintenance tasks necessary to keep shop area, vehicles, equipment, and tools in safe and functional condition. Monitors equipment operations for efficiency and safety, reports faulty equipment and maintenance needs, and tracks parts and supply levels, notifying appropriate personnel of replenishment needs.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Technical school education preparing electronics technology or electrical wiring is preferred.
- A combination of education and experience deemed appropriate to fulfill the role and responsibilities of this position will be considered.
- Must possess a valid driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days from date of hire.
- Must possess a South Dakota Electrical Apprentice license or have the ability to obtain within an acceptable time frame.
Salary : $23 - $25
