The Water Reclamation Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Rapid City Sanitary Sewer System and the Rapid City Storm Water System. The division serves as a regional service provider by providing sanitary sewage disposal services for the Black Hawk, North Dale, Rapid Canyon, and Rapid Valley sanitary districts. Water Reclamation is also responsible for the collection and treatment of nearly 3.5 billion gallons of wastewater annually.

This position is responsible for installing, calibrating, maintaining, revising, and repairing plant and distribution electronic and electrical equipment including related SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) computerized process control system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Utility Electrician I:
- Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, and performs preventative maintenance on all electrical units, controls, components, and related wiring with adherence to all safety regulations.
- Installs sensors, meters, and other electronic devices.
- Performs work requiring extensive knowledge of electrical schematics, including electronic theory and principles. Creates and updates supporting schematics, procedures, and documentation.
- Installs programmable logic controllers, and works with SCADA systems.
- Evaluates, purchases, installs, and sets up new equipment. Inspects, cleans, and repairs electrical motors, controls, and equipment.
- Operates mobile equipment, including forklift trucks, lifts, and booms to assist with electrical maintenance.
- Complies with the Environmental Health and Safety program in support of an incident and injury-free workplace
Utility Electrician II: all above duties plus
- Programs and troubleshoots programmable logic controllers
- Makes electrical and electronic modifications to existing equipment
- Assists in maintaining an inventory of electrical components.
- Oversees others in performing various tasks when necessary.

Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
Utility Electrician I: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one (1) year certificate from an accredited college or technical school, or two (2) years directly related experience in electronics technology or electrical wiring, including one (1) year of experience in electronic or electrical repair within an industrial facility. A combination of education and experience deemed appropriate to fulfill the role and responsibilities of this position will be considered.
Utility Electrician II: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one (1) year certificate from an accredited college or technical school, and five (5) years of experience directly related to industrial-type facilities. A combination of education and experience deemed appropriate to fulfill the role and responsibilities of this position will be considered.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must possess a valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days from date of hire.
Utility Electrician I: Must possess a South Dakota Electrical Apprentice or Journeyman’s License.
Utility Electrician II: Must possess a South Dakota Electrical Journeyman License with the ability to obtain a Rapid City Electrical Contractor’s License and a South Dakota Electrical Contractors License.
