The City of Rapid City is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Water Reclamation Laboratory Analyst to join our Water Reclamation Division. This position plays a critical role in protecting public health and the environment by performing laboratory testing, data analysis, and record-keeping in accordance with City, State, and Federal regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collects samples of liquids, solids, and gases from various wastewater treatment, composting, and industrial processes using appropriate sampling procedures.
- Performs physical, chemical, and microbiological analyses of samples using Environmental Protection Agency-approved Methods and APHA Standard Methods with a high degree of accuracy.
- Operates, calibrates, and maintains laboratory instruments such as spectrophotometers, dissolved oxygen meters, pH/ISE meters and electrodes, autoclaves, analytical balances, drying ovens, muffle furnaces, turbidimeters, incubators, baths, and phase-contrast microscopes.
- Calculates test results, logs test results on appropriate bench sheets and appends those results to the Laboratory Information Management System with a high degree of accuracy.
- Prepares reagents, standardized solutions, and microbiological culture media.
- Cleans and maintains laboratory glassware, instruments, equipment, and laboratory area.
- Programs maintain and calibrate automated sampling devices, process instruments, chemical feed equipment, and flow measurement equipment.
- Assists in maintaining the laboratory quality assurance/control program.
- Practices standard laboratory safety and health procedures.
- Performs other duties as required.
ABOUT YOU

- Associate's degree from a two-year college or technical school in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or similar course of study required; one year of related experience desired.
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or a similar course of study preferred.
- Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, laboratory practices, and QA/QC procedures sufficient to perform essential functions and familiarity with pertinent analytical methods, such as EPA-approved Methods and APHA Standard Methods is preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days from the date of hire.
Salary : $23
