What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard/Lifeguard II position at City of Red Bluff?
Under supervision, serve as a lifeguard at the pool for comprehensive programs of public recreation for all residents of all ages, maintain close surveillance over swimming activities; enforce water safety rules and regulations.This position works under the direction of the Pool Manager or his/her designee.
Perform rescues, first aid and resuscitation. Maintains pool deck and adjacent areas, such as locker rooms and restrooms. Notify supervisor of emergencies, disturbances or problems. Assist in instruction of recreational aquatics classes. Set up and tear down accommodations for special events, programs and facility rentals. Open and close swimming facilities. Cashier and snack bar duties. Deals effectively and courteously with the public. Performs related duties as assigned. Lifeguard II also provide swimming instruction and assistance.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Physical ability to perform swimming rescues is an essential job function.

The City will reimburse 1/2 the cost per American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certificate (Lifeguard, or Lifeguard & WSI)
upon successful completion of the Pool Season.
Lifeguard I Requires:
- Possession of a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate and a valid CPR Certificate and First Aid.
- Possession of a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate and a valid CPR Certificate and First Aid WSI (Water Safety Instructor Certificate).
- The ability to work with the public.
- Must be at least 15 years of age. If under 18 years of age; must submit a work permit upon hire.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of public swimming pool operations.
- Red Cross regulations.
- Safe work practices.
Ability to:
- Perform water safety and lifesaving techniques.
- Deal effectively and courteously with the public.
- Work in all weather conditions.
- Remain vigilant and act quickly in making rescues and rending aid.
- Effectively deal with stressful and emergency situations.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Accept constructive criticism and direction from supervisors.
