This recruitment is specifically for weekend mornings, both Saturday & Sunday, and Monday evening staffing for the Community Center, typically 4-5 hours each shift. Additional hours for seasonal sports scorekeeping may also be available. Applicants must be over 18 as this role will be working solo at the Community Center and may need to assist parties that serve alcohol.

To perform general recreation program support, customer service and maintenance tasks for the Community Center and Recreation Departments. Ensure a fair, safe, and clean environment for City employees and the public.
This position works under the direct supervision of the Community Center/Recreation Supervisor and Lead Recreation Coordinator.

Community Center:
Assists rental clients with event logistics and monitors evening events as assigned; enforces policies regarding the use of City facilities.  Performs event / meeting decoration and set-up.  Sets up and maintains audio-visual equipment.
Performs general custodial tasks as required, including but not limited to scrubbing and mopping floors; vacuuming carpets; sweeping floors; cleaning interior and exterior windows; cleaning and sanitizing all rooms; cleaning tables and chairs; sanitizing kitchen utensils and silverware, etc.  Assists in maintaining inventory of all property. Maintains assigned equipment. 
Performs general office duties as required, including answering the telephone, assisting with facility reservations, etc.

Sports Programs:
Responsible for keeping score and assisting in setup / tear down of adult sports games. Works to promote the safety of all participants during games. Respond immediately and effectively to any emergency. Afterwards report emergency immediately to supervisor, and file report. Maintain standards of the game and ensure that the applicable sport rules are followed. Use appropriate signals and mechanics. Maintain a high level of professionalism and customer service. Setup and take down sports equipment as required.

Children’s Programs:
Organize, prepare, and facilitate safe, fun, age-appropriate, and enriching activities, lessons, or programs for all age groups as assigned, and in accordance with applicable the City’s guidelines.
When working with children, independently able to supervise groups of children by simultaneously observing and interacting with children while also addressing behavior and safety issues.
Learn, understand, and follow any program instructions or guidelines including behavior management systems and procedures for addressing safety. 
Actively engage with program participants; provide guidance and support; and adhere to established adult/child ratios where applicable.
Ensure materials and supplies are maintained and used properly.

Pool Assistance:
Serve as a cashier at the pool for comprehensive programs of public recreation for all residents of all ages, enforce safety rules and regulations. Maintains pool deck and adjacent areas, such as locker rooms and restrooms. Notify supervisor of emergencies, disturbances, or problems. Set up and tear down accommodations for special events, programs, and facility rentals. Able to count and make change. Clean restrooms. Clean snack bar. Take customers’ food orders. Pick up trash around the perimeter of pool daily.

Assists with recreation programs and activities as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Floor scrubber, floor buffer, vacuum, rug shampooer, mechanic's tools, painting supplies, general hand and power tools, telephone, computer, copier, ball field dragger, be able to chalk softball fields, etc. Arts and crafts, as well as sports equipment as required.

Tasks involve the ability to exert the regular and at times sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and that generally involves the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderately heavy weight (up to 50 pounds) and occasionally heavier objects and materials (up to 75 pounds).
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental / work conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery hazards, electric currents, vibrations, toxic agents, and working at heights.DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 14 years of age.
  • Must be able to maintain an active work permit if under 18 years of age.

Knowledge of:
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures; methods, products, tools and equipment used in building and grounds maintenance activities.

Ability to:
  • Ability to understand and apply pertinent policies, procedures and regulations; follow oral and written instructions; follow and enforce safety regulations; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work; provide courteous and efficient assistance to citizens; make required calculations accurately as required; perform manual labor; work evenings as required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • If over 18, may be asked to operate a motor vehicle. If so, must have valid CA driver's license with clean DMV record.
