The Electric Manager – Line   (Logistics) is a key leadership role within Redding Electric Utility (REU), responsible for overseeing the critical logistical and operational support functions that enable safe and efficient electric system operations. This position ensures that REU’s field crews, including line crews, troubleshooters, inspectors, and Line Clearance arborists, have the vehicles, equipment, materials, and logistical support necessary to perform their work effectively.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced logistics and operations professional with a strong background in supply chain management, fleet and equipment oversight, utility support services, and regulatory compliance. This role requires a leader who can balance strategic planning with hands-on management, ensuring that resources are available when and where they are needed.

The Electric Manager – Line   (Logistics) will oversee and improve REU’s field support infrastructure, ensuring the seamless coordination of supply chain, fleet management, vegetation management, and work order logistics. This includes:

  • Supply Chain & Warehouse Operations: Managing procurement, inventory control, and material distribution to support electric utility operations, including construction, maintenance, and outage response.
  • Fleet & Equipment Oversight: Ensuring utility vehicles, heavy equipment, and specialized tools are properly maintained, meet safety standards, and are efficiently allocated to crews.
  • Vegetation & Wildfire Mitigation: Overseeing the utility’s arborist and vegetation management programs, ensuring compliance with wildfire prevention and safety regulations.
  • Work Order & Logistics Coordination: Overseeing development and implementation of the Lifecycle Work Order Management System, ensuring materials and resources are available for scheduled and emergency work.
  • Budget & Cost Management: Developing and managing budgets related to fleet, equipment, material procurement, and vegetation management, optimizing costs while maintaining high service standards.
  • Emergency Response Readiness: Ensuring logistical resources, including fleet and materials, are available to support storm response and mutual aid efforts.
  • Process Improvement & Performance Metrics: Implementing key performance indicators (KPIs) to track fleet readiness, material availability, and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience in logistics, operations, or supply chain management, preferably in the electric utility, construction, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory experience, with a proven ability to manage warehouse, fleet, procurement, or vegetation management teams.
  • Knowledge of utility operations and maintenance practices, ensuring logistics functions align with field crew needs.
  • Familiarity with asset management, work order systems (e.g., GIS, ERP, Lifecycle), and procurement best practices.
  • Experience managing budgets and contracts, particularly in fleet services, equipment procurement, and materials management.
  • Understanding of safety, environmental, and wildfire mitigation regulations that impact utility logistics.
  • Ability to develop and implement performance tracking systems, using data to improve operational efficiency and resource allocation.

  • Knowledge of electrical theory, encompassing electrical circuits and wiring systems
  • Knowledge of day-to-day field operations, including methods, equipment, tools, and materials used in electrical underground and overhead construction, maintenance and repair work, and vegetation management around electric facilities
  • Knowledge of relevant local, State, and Federal regulations, including safety standards and environmental compliance
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment, including project management software
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public and employees 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing 
  • Ability to demonstrate highly developed analytical and technical skills in electric utility engineering and analysis

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements:

Any combination of training and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

  • Typical education would include a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, finance, accounting, business management, or a related field from an accredited college, university, or equivalent.
  • Typical experience would include seven years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in electric utility system field operations related to constructing and maintaining utility transmission and distribution systems, with at least three years in a supervisory role. 
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.

Examination Process: An oral board interview or written exam will be administered. This recruitment will establish an eligibility list and may be used to fill future vacancies.

Selection Process: Final appointment is contingent upon:
  • Positive past employment references
  • Review of a driver history record (depending on position)
  • Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check (applicants 18 and older)
  • Passing of a pre-employment medical exam and drug screening test (depending on position)
Veteran’s Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating “Honorable Discharge” from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.
