Do you enjoy working with youth? The City of Redding Recreation Division is looking for a fun and energetic staff to work in our summer camp programs. As Recreation staff, you will help plan fun weekly activities for children ages 5 to 12. You will be working under general supervision and responsible for overseeing summer camp activities and monitoring participants. Why work for Redding Recreation? If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted directly by the Department. Positions may include day, evening, holiday and weekend shift work and require work in the sunlight and the elements.
Minimum age for any position is 16. Youth athletic positions are year round. The season for summer day camp positions begin in May and run through late August. All new employees will be subject to drug/alcohol screening, and will be fingerprinted prior to beginning work.

Recreation Instructor II: $18.83 – $26.49
Recreation Instructor II is required to provide quality instruction to youth and/or adults in various leisure time activities, is generally free to develop lesson plans for designated classes within the guidelines of departmental policies and/or certifying agency regulations, and is responsible for necessary training of staff and volunteers and program evaluations upon completion of a program or class.
Recreation Instructor II
- Plan, teach, and evaluate assigned recreation programs.
- Develop and implement a curriculum in an interesting, well-rounded, and motivating manner.
- Arrange for supplies, equipment and proper facilities in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate safe and correct techniques with proper equipment in an appropriate environment.
- Demonstrate good motivational skills and a courteous cooperative working relationship with students and the general public.
- Supervise and assign job duties to assistants and/or volunteers.
- May be required to perform CPR, First Aid and Basic Water Rescue as deemed necessary.
- Provide information pertaining to City sponsored recreational events and activities to the public.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements:
Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
- Typical education would include a high school diploma, or equivalent, and advanced training or course work in the discipline.
- Typical experience would include relevant and appropriate experience in the activity to be presented.
- Possession of the appropriate California driver's license is highly desirable, but not required.
- When assigned as a Camp Counselor, you must obtain Basic First Aid certification and CPR (adult, child and infant)and Basic Water Rescue certification within 60 days of hiring.

Veteran's Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating "Honorable Discharge" from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.
