What are the responsibilities and job description for the PT Adult Literacy Assistant position at City of Redlands?
- Provides assistance to the adult literacy program;
- Conducts outreach to recruit tutors;
- Provides training to tutors;
- Performs substitute tutoring and teaches classes;
- Prepares materials for classes and records attendance;
- Selects books for adult literacy collection and determines topics for conversation classes;
- Manages family literacy meetings;
- Creates and maintains reports, databases, and files;
- Responds to general inquiries about the adult literacy program from the community, potential volunteers, and adult learners;
- Assists with development of written materials, presentations, workshops and other methods of enhancing community awareness;
- Assist with special projects as needed; and
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in child development, literacy, communication, or a closely related field. For degrees obtained outside of the U.S., an official equivalency evaluation is required.
- Two years of experience teaching or tutoring adult learners.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Driver's license at the time of appointment.
Essential functions and duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
- Ability to work in a standard office or library environment; ability to travel to different sites and locations;
- Regularly required to talk and hear;
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb, crouch, stoop, kneel, and perform repetitive motions;
- Occasionally required to reach and carry and/or lift up to 25 lbs.
